🐼 Spring has sprung! 🌱
OK, maybe the timing was a coincidence, but yesterday I walked into our shop and realised how easy it is to let a work area become dirty, untidy, unorganised, and downright difficult to work in.
Back in the day, when I were a lad (I know 👦), my colleagues who would kick my backside and impress on me the importance of keeping a work area clean, tidy, and presentable. It wasn’t about 5S or efficiency — it was about pride. My old workmates left their mark on me.
It is far too easy to let standards slip when we’re busy. Too easy to allow a workplace to fall into a shambles. We can’t always repaint the floors, but we can look after our workspace and keep it safe and organised.
Yesterday I was on a mission and decided it was getting done Now ! . On Monday our CNC Precision Machinist won’t recognise the place and to be fair, he inherited a less-than-desirable workspace from others.
As a Precision Machinist he is doing a great job, but he is also young and still learning. It is our job, as experienced engineers, to guide the next generation and set standards. Sometimes the best way to do that is to simply lead by example and do a bit of Spring Cleaning.
