Another day out with the ESAB Europe and another proper job to put it through its paces 👍

This time I'm back on site at McDonald's repairing another stainless steel kitchen sink.

This is the second site job I've used the ESAB on now and so far, so good. It's one thing testing a machine in the workshop, but I want to see how it performs on the sort of jobs I actually get called out to do.

A few more jobs to go yet before I give you my full thoughts, but it's doing the job nicely so far 👌

I've just given the ESAB Rogue 201iP a proper run on site and I've got to say, I'm impressed.

I was running it from around 160 amps, down to 140 and then 99, doing multiple runs for over an hour.

And after all that I'm still able to hold the torch. It's air cooled and barely warm. Absolutely amazing really.

It's one thing testing a machine for a few minutes in the workshop, but putting it through a proper job tells you a lot more.

So far, this ESAB Europe is doing very well 👍

But today I needed a little bit of help on site. More importantly, I needed a fire watcher.

Luckily I've managed to find one at very short notice 😂🐶

Not sure how good he is at the job yet, but he's got all the gear on and looks the part. That's half the battle isn't it 😂

All work and no play makes Gary a dull boy

The last 9 years we have been camping as a group over the August bank holiday weekend.
There’s 5 families including us, the children have grown up with us doing this and none of us has missed a year.
This year was probably the worst weather we’ve had in all that time, but that’s something you have no control over and we still had a great laugh and did loads. But the bond, friendship, memories and seeing 8 children growing through the 9 years is something you make all together that will last for ever.

Sometimes you look at a weld and wonder what happened 😂

A customer brought me this exhaust pipe they'd bought online and, to put it nicely, the welding wasn't great.

They needed it fixed for the next day, so I removed as much of the bad weld as I could and worked with what I had. Considering the condition it came to me in, I managed to get it cleaned up, welded properly and usable again.

Is it the prettiest job I've ever done? No 😂 But most importantly, it's not leaking anymore and the customer could get back on the road.

Sometimes you've just got to make the best of what turns up at the workshop 👍

This isn't really my kind of work if I'm being truthful 😂

The customer had been struggling to find anyone who could help him out, so I thought I'd give it a go.

The bottom had rusted through and needed sorting for the MOT. I cut out the bad rust, treated the area properly, then made up a cover plate and welded it into place over the holes.

Not the sort of job you'll normally find me doing, but sometimes it's just about finding a solution and helping someone out.

Job sorted. Happy customer. That's what matters 👍

A lot of people think you need to buy the most expensive welding equipment on the market to get a decent result. You really don't.

I've worked with plenty of expensive, top end machines over the years, but price isn't everything. I've also used more reasonably priced machines from and they've been more than capable of producing a good weld.

This is a 210 AC/DC machine and I've done a few of these joints with it now. Nice clean welds and more than capable of doing the standard of work I need it to do.

At the end of the day, you can't always blame the machine 😂 A lot of it comes down to the person using it.

Practice, learn and build the skill. A more expensive machine won't do that bit for you.

It's finally time to start sharing my thoughts on the new ESAB set.

This is Part 1 of the series, and rather than giving my opinion straight out of the box, I wanted to use it properly on real jobs first.

Over the next few videos I'll be sharing my honest thoughts, what's impressed me, what I've found works really well, and if there's anything I think could be improved. No tool is perfect, but so far I've been really pleased with how it's performed on site.

Hopefully these videos will be useful if you're thinking about buying one yourself.

Let me know if there's anything specific you'd like me to cover in the next parts.

Part 3... job done.

The new balls are welded on, sprayed up and ready to go. Just in time too, because the drive-thru was about to open for the breakfast rush.

It's another one of those jobs that people probably drive past every day without giving it a second thought, but keeping these barriers in good condition helps protect both vehicles and the restaurant.

Another early start, another repair completed, and on to the next one.

And remember... check your balls! 😂
