Fred was succeeded by his son David in 1999. David was very passionate about the business and helped introduce many new products over the years. The company was growing fast and in 2010 a move to larger premises was needed, this gave the company more space for bigger and more efficient machinery. Sadly, David passed away in 2020. This was sudden, and was a shock to all the staff at EPSL. The business was then bought by its Operations Director, Russell Dawson. Russell came to EPSL from a successful background in lean engineering and was invited by David to join the company in 2010 to oversee investment in new technology, advanced machinery and processes. Since his appointment the company’s progress has been noted and recognised over the years, including selection as finalists in the prestigious Red Rose Awards. The company also works closely with local charities for the benefit of both children and teachers. The company recently achieved an ambitious business plan to double turnover in a 4-year period, and managed this in just 3 years! EPSL continues to strive forward with exciting plans!

We invest in the best people, equipment and materials to ensure every single item that leaves our state-of-the-art production facility meets and exceeds the expectations of our customers. EPSL Educational Printing is passionate about helping teaching professionals by providing them with the resources they need, on time, every time. ur success is a result of our long-standing expertise and the fact that we take the time to understand the needs of individual customers, providing a responsive and cost-effective solution. We produce an extensive range of high-quality educational material including exercise books, planners, reports and diaries, in various sizes, colours and formats, as well as personalised and bespoke designs to complement your school. The company was founded in Blackburn by Fred Henry Pickering in 1975. Fred left his job in the teaching profession to follow his dream of making his mark in the world of business. From a modest start printing tickets for local shows and concerts, it wasn’t long before Fred found himself back in the education arena. His decision to expand into producing and printing quality exercise books, and later on adding other educational resources, was the first step to the business becoming the success it is today. Fred was succeeded by his son David in 1999, who still runs the business in its hometown of Blackburn.
