Meet Zak, Archie, Cameron, Amelia, Alex and Callum, our Apprentices competing in the Worldskills Regionals in just over 2 weeks - (Welding category)👏

We’re very proud to announce that all six applicants from WEC Engineering Academy have successfully progressed through to the regional stage of the WorldSkills UK Competition in the Welding category.

We’re also excited to be hosting the WorldSkills regional competition at WEC Engineering Academy in Blackburn next month... And over 50% of entrants within that category are from WEC Group 😀

We’re delighted to announce that the regional stage of the WorldSkills Competition (Welding category) will be hosted at WEC Engineering Academy in Blackburn on 4th June.

We also have some fantastic news to share… 6 out of 6 of our welding apprentices who entered the competition have successfully made it through to the next stage of the competition!

Congratulations to Zak, Archie, Cameron, Amelia, Alex and Callum on this fantastic achievement.
A total of 11 apprentices, including our own, will compete in the regional competition in Blackburn, where they will have just one hour to complete four welds, with only one attempt at each.

Even more impressively, across two competition categories, 10 out of 10 applicants from WEC Engineering Academy have progressed to the regional stage - a 100% success rate.

We’re incredibly proud of all our apprentices and wish them the very best of luck in the competition!

WorldSkills training continues at WEC Group Engineering Academy!

We are delighted to announce that Sam, Callum, Harrison and Josh have successfully passed the entry stage and have all been invited to the regional finals in the Metal Fabrication category.

That means every WEC entrant in the Metal Fabrication category has progressed to the next stage, which is a fantastic achievement for the team!

Did you hear about the exciting community project our apprentices in Rotherham are taking part in?

Apprentices from our MTL Advanced Division are taking part in the Butterfly Appeal for Rotherham Hospice with apprentices crafting 2,000 corten steel butterflies. Each piece will carry a personal message, honouring loved ones and celebrating the care provided by the hospice.

The installation will be open at Wentworth Woodhouse from 4th to 19th July 2026, offering visitors the opportunity to dedicate a butterfly and support a truly important cause.

Our Apprentices in Rotherham are supporting the Butterfly Appeal in aid of Rotherham Hospice this year 🦋

Our MTL Advanced apprentices are taking part by hand-crafting 2,000 corten steel butterflies, each produced with care, precision and pride by its apprentices. These butterflies will form part of a special installation at Wentworth Woodhouse, where members of the public can purchase one for £40 and add a personalised engraved message in memory of a loved one.

This meaningful initiative will help raise vital funds for Rotherham Hospice, supporting expert palliative and end of life care across the local community.
