⚡ Energy drinks could soon be off-limits for under-16s – a move being welcomed by dental professionals.
The UK government has confirmed plans for new laws banning the sale of high-caffeine energy drinks to under-16s, set to come into force by April 2027.
With their bright packaging, bold flavours and easy availability, energy drinks have become increasingly visible among young people. But behind the branding is a combination that has long concerned dental and health professionals: high sugar, high acidity and high caffeine.
From a dental perspective, restricting access could be a positive step towards protecting young people’s oral health. But legislation is only one part of the conversation.
