Forklift Examination/thorough in the West Midlands

When do you need a LOLER/thorough examination?

Forklift trucks need to be tested on a regular basis.

Any forklift operating up to 40 hours per week without attachments beyond a sideshift requires examination every 12 months.

Any forklift used for elevating individuals, even if infrequently, must have an examination every 6 months.

Any attachment that is not permanently attached to a forklift must be examined every 6 months.

Any forklift that operates for more than 80 hours per week requires examination every 4 months.

Any forklift working in a hazardous environment, including a marine setting, corrosive chemical environment, metal manufacturing or processing environment, cement/aggregate
processing, or in the presence of abrasive particles or brine applications, must be examined every 4 months.

Any attachment that is permanently attached to a truck will follow the same LOLER examination schedule as the truck itself.

Drive a forklift? Here are some tips from atlas forklift ...

Driving a can be result in stress and fatigue.

We've prepared some tips to help you....

Try to keep arms straight, but not stiff. Relax your arms as much as possible when using the forklift's steering wheel. Sit in the seat and keep your posture straight - don't arch your shoulders. Also make sure you are sitting right back in the seat.

If you can adjust the position of the steering, so you can reach controls comfortably.

When not using the pedals, keep feet flat.

Always make sure you adhere to the policy of "safety first."

When driving the forklift, make sure you are operating at a safe speed which is relevant to the environment. Be very conscious of your surroundings. Avoid sudden braking and other sudden
movements. To relieve muscle tension, shake arms, and take regular breaks such as a short walk, and also do some stretching exercises. Do not use the forklift if you are tired, have consumed alcohol or drugs.

Did you know that trucks have been operated by some famous people?

Robert Redford, star of such films as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and The Sting operated a forklift truck in his early adult life, whilst reggae legend, Bob Marley worked with machinery early in his career, including operating a forklift truck. Alan Jackson, the country and music legend was also employed as a forklift truck operator.

Schindler's List star Liam Neeson, the Irish actor, began his career as an apprentice forklift truck driver at the Guinness factory.

In the 1996 film starring Baywatch actress Pamela Anderson featured a forklift truck in an action sequence, which is a very dangerous scene to any responsible forklift truck operator.
