We're exhibiting at Design & Engineering Expo (part of Smart Manufacturing Week) at the NEC, Birmingham on 3–4 June.

If machine vision, edge AI, or embedded hardware is on your product roadmap, come and find us in Hall 5, Stand H96.

We'll be running a live demo of our real-time edge AI vision system - object detection and identification running entirely on-device, on an Infineon PSOC Edge. No cloud. No latency trade-offs. Your data stays on the device.

Whether you're early in scoping a project or already mid-development and hitting obstacles, our engineers will be on hand to talk through the specifics.

Any one of these can brick your devices in the field:
- Power loss mid-update
- A corrupted download that passed the checksum
- A bootloader with no rollback path
- A Friday afternoon push to 100% of devices.

We've seen it happen. And the 2am call about a thousand field devices that won't boot is not a pleasant one.

The root cause is nearly always the same: OTA firmware security was not part of the design from the beginning.

We’ve been fixing OTA failures for over 15 years. Swipe to view five things that consistently separate products that survive in the field from those that don't.

Golden hour over Longbridge 🌇

This stunning sunset was captured by Senior Software Engineer Chris, from the office balcony earlier this week - not a bad view to end the day.

Are you looking to replace your 2G or 3G modem? The standard you select will define your next five years 📡

Most teams we speak with, ask "what's available?"
What they should be asking is "what does my device actually do?"
Follow our flowchart and you'll land in one of four places:
📍 Static, low data, UK-only → NB-IoT
📍 Mobile, low latency needed → LTE Cat-M1
📍 Multi-region or high data rate → Cat-1 bis
📍 None of the above fit cleanly → you probably need a multi-standard modem

Unfortunately, UK coverage maps show population-weighted averages, not rural or town-level gaps. Cat-M1 rollout is still patchy vs Europe. And if your device crosses borders, what works here may not work there.

In our latest blog, we walk through each of these decisions in full, including the three places retrofit migrations actually go wrong, and why antenna mismatch alone can cost you £15-25k at certification.

Check our quick ‘Standard Selector’ tool.

Can your circuit survive two simultaneous failures?

⚠️ For Ex ia (Zone 0) certification, it has to.

IEC 60079-11 requires your design to remain intrinsically safe even when two protective components fail at once:
❌ One fault - You need a 1.5× safety factor
❌❌ Two faults - You still need to hold at 1.0×

In practice, that means three Zener diodes where you'd instinctively use two - because if two fail, the third must still shunt the full fault energy safely.

Dual-fault is just one layer of the Zone 0 power budget challenge.
In our latest blog, master the intrinsically safe power budget for Ex ia compliance and learn how to manage stored energy, T-ratings, and dual-fault safety for Zone 0 electronics.

🚨 WirelessHART vs HART: Choosing the Right Industrial Protocol

Choosing between Wired HART and WirelessHART can be a project risk decision.

We've broken down every critical factor so you can make the call with confidence, before it's in the design.

⚠️ Has your cellular migration stalled?

Every failed certification attempt in a cellular migration costs £15-25K.

Most manufacturers only find this out after the third attempt, six months behind schedule, with their engineers stretched across two projects and their competitors already shipping.

At ByteSnap Design, we’ve already guided 50+ manufacturers through cellular migrations. We know exactly where these projects stall and how to get them moving again, in half the time.

If your connected products are overdue a network upgrade, the time to move is now, not when the deadline is already past.

🛑 Drowning in CVE alerts?

102 new vulnerabilities are published every single day.

And with MDR 2026 and CRA 2027 compliance deadlines approaching fast, manufacturers running embedded Linux devices can no longer afford to treat security as an afterthought.

Managing Linux patches in-house can cost £25,000+ per product line annually in engineering time alone - before you factor in breach risk, tooling, and compliance overhead.

Most engineering teams are already stretched, unable to cope with this.

✅ Introducing ByteSnap's Premium Software Security Service

In partnership with Digi International, ByteSnap Design offers continuous embedded Linux security management for connected manufacturing devices - without adding to your team's workload.

The service covers three areas: assessing your specific device configuration to identify real risks (not generic CVE noise), applying and testing targeted patches across your hardware platform, and delivering monthly audit-ready reports to satisfy MDR, CRA, and IEC 62443 requirements.

It works on NXP and ST platforms - including i.MX8, i.MX9, and ST MP1/MP2 - and isn't limited to Digi hardware. If your current Linux platform can't support updates, ByteSnap can help migrate to one that can.

The right time to get clarity on your security posture is before a compliance deadline forces the issue.
