Choosing a new forklift usually comes down to the same checklist. Load capacity. Lift height. Fuel type. Tyres to suit the floor.

The one thing that list tends to leave off: where does the truck actually work, and who's sitting in it all day?

If it spends its shifts outdoors, in a yard, on a dock or in a cold store, a standard open machine leaves the operator in the weather. Cold, wet and dust, for the whole shift. That turns into slower work, more mistakes, and a driver who dreads the rota.

Operator protection belongs on the spec sheet, not bolte on after the first hard winter. The moment to sort the cab is while you're still choosing the truck.

Whatever you settle on, send us the make and model. We'll tell you what we'd fit, and why.

The loading dock is never quite inside and never quite outside.

The door opens. The weather comes in. Your forklift operator crosses that line dozens of times a shift. Warm warehouse, then cold open dock, then back again. By mid-afternoon in winter, they have felt that swing more times than anyone counts.

You can insulate the building and seal the doors. But the truck still has to work at the open doorway. The operator is the part most dock upgrades never reach. A cab travels with them. Warehouse or dock, door open or closed, they stay protected and the product keeps moving.

Working the dock through winter? Send us the make and model. We will tell you what we would fit.

Been told that nobody makes a cab for your machine?

The Manitou TMT25S and Morooka MST300VD had no cab template available. We built one for each anyway.

We visited the machines, captured their exact geometry with a 3D scanner and designed the cabs in CAD. Once approved, we built them in Birkenhead and fitted them on site.

You do not need technical drawings or measurements. Just send us the make, model and location. We will check our 23,000+ designs first. If yours is not there, we can design it around the machine itself.

-25°C in the freezer. Eight hours. Someone is doing that shift right now.

Cold store is one of the hardest places to put an operator, and the open or part-screened trucks that arrive as standard were never built for it. Fingers go numb. Screens fog and frost over. Concentration drops, and a cold, tired driver makes more mistakes around racking and people.

We build fully enclosed, heated cabs for exactly these conditions. Designed to fit the specific machine. Screens specified for the cold. Fitted on site by our own engineers, UK made from our Birkenhead factory.

We've built for cold store trucks before and have the designs on file. So this isn't a first attempt on your machine.
If you run forklifts in a freezer or chilled store, send us the model. We'll tell you what we'd fit, and why.

An operator who keeps climbing out of the freezer to warm up isn't moving pallets.

Cold store work carries a cost that rarely shows up on the schedule. The driver gets cold, climbs down, warms up, climbs back in, and does it again. Across a full shift that's real lost throughput, on top of what it takes out of the person.

A fully enclosed, heated cab keeps the operator in the seat and the product moving. No fogged screen halfway down an aisle. No stopping mid-run to get the feeling back into your hands.

We design Full Steel Cabs for sub-zero environments, built to fit your exact truck and fitted on site by our own engineers. UK made, from our Birkenhead factory.

Tell us the truck and the temperature you run at, and we'll tell you what fits.

Got a forklift nobody makes a cab for? Send us the make and model.

The big catalogue suppliers build cabs for high-volume, recent models. If yours is older, imported in small numbers, or just uncommon, it often gets left behind. A ten-year-old forklift still doing the job every day deserves the same weather protection as a new one.

We hold 20,000+ cab designs on file from 30+ years of UK manufacturing. Most checks come back the same day. Standard orders leave our Birkenhead factory within 10 working days.

If your model isn't on file, we scan the vehicle on site and design the cab in-house. No drawings needed from you. Send the make and model, or call (44) 0151 637 2323 for a straight answer.

If another supplier has already told you no, it might be worth giving us a call.

We regularly work with fleet managers who have vehicles that fall outside standard cab configurations. Modified machines, imported models, specialist equipment. The kind of vehicles where generic kits simply do not fit properly.

Our team visits on site, scans the vehicle, designs the cab around the actual machine, and tests the fit before production starts. Every detail is checked before a single component goes into manufacture.

It takes more effort upfront. But it means the cab performs properly long term, with no rattling, no gaps, and no repeated adjustments after fitting.

Most forklift operators working outdoor yards don't complain. They just adapt. Wedging cloth around door gaps. Wiping screens before reversing. Working around a cab that stopped doing its job years ago.

We worked with a retail distribution centre that had exactly this problem. The forklifts were compliant on paper. The operators were managing in silence.

A cab upgrade changed that. No new fleet. No major disruption. Just proper sealing, clearer visibility, and a working environment people could actually rely on.

National Forklift Safety Day is today. Here's what it means for operators working in open cabs.

An open cab in a busy warehouse isn't just uncomfortable, it's a risk. Noise exposure, falling debris, temperature extremes, and poor visibility all affect concentration and reaction time.

A properly fitted cab enclosure doesn't just keep drivers warm. It reduces fatigue, improves focus, and keeps your operators protected through every shift.

✅ Full steel cab enclosures, UK-made in Birkenhead
✅ Model-specific fitment, no cutting, no adapting
✅ 30+ years of design templates ready to manufacture

If your fleet still has open or poorly protected cabs, today's a good day to change that.

Industrial cab design is changing.

By 2027, fleet managers will be looking at far more than basic weather protection. Fitment, operator comfort, visibility, thermal performance, and long term durability are all becoming bigger parts of the specification conversation.

For forklifts, utility vehicles, airport equipment, agricultural machinery, and other industrial fleets, the cab is no longer just where the operator sits. It is part of how the machine performs every day.

We covered what is changing, what is likely to matter most by 2027, and what fleet buyers should be thinking about now in our latest LinkedIn article.
