🔧 WORKSHOP UPDATE | REFRIGERATION PIPEWORK PREFABRICATION

Progress continues in the OWS Engineering workshop on a new refrigeration pipework installation for Thistle Seafoods, Scotland.

While we await delivery of the buffer tank and duty/standby pump set, our fabrication team is getting ahead of the programme by carrying out a mock set-up and fabrication of the associated pipework spools.

By establishing the equipment positions and pre-fabricating as much of the system as possible within our workshop, we can progress the pipework towards completion before the remaining equipment arrives.

This approach helps us to:

⚙️ Maximise off-site fabrication
📐 Verify spool arrangements and fit-up
⏱️ Reduce installation time on site
🔧 Minimise modifications during installation
📅 Maintain programme efficiency and support early project delivery

A good example of how planning ahead at the fabrication stage can make a significant difference at installation.

New Stainless Steel Culvert Pipeline | Liverpool ⚙️

Another fabrication project progressing through OWS Engineering.

Our team is currently working on a new 8” stainless steel culvert pipeline for UM Storage at Huskisson Dock, Liverpool.

From fabrication through to installation, our experienced team delivers robust, high-quality pipework solutions manufactured to meet the demands of challenging industrial and marine environments.

Welding Qualifications Successfully Completed at OWS Engineering ⚙️

Another important milestone for the OWS Engineering team, with welding qualification activities successfully completed this week.

✅ Welder Qualification Testing
Pipe welders tested in the 6G position using TIG, in accordance with BS EN ISO 9606, with supplementary fillet qualification and ASME Section IX requirements.

✅ Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs)
Three PQRs successfully completed in accordance with BS EN ISO 15614-1:2004 + A2:2012 and ASME Section IX.

✅ Welding Procedure Qualifications covering:
• All-positional multi-run butt welds – MMA using E7018 basic low-hydrogen consumables
• Multi-run fillet welds – MMA using E7018 basic low-hydrogen consumables
• Single-run fillet welds – MMA using E7018 basic low-hydrogen consumables

These qualifications further demonstrate our capability to deliver fabrication and welding work to recognised international standards, with quality and compliance embedded from initial planning through to final project sign-off.

A great achievement for the team and another step in giving our clients confidence in the quality, reliability and technical capability behind every OWS Engineering project.

Welder Qualification Testing Update👨‍🏭⚙️

Another important day of testing at the OWS Engineering workshop.

Welder qualification testing has been carried out under the supervision of Incon NDT, with our welders completing test pieces in accordance with BS EN ISO 9606 and ASME IX requirements.

✅ All test specimens successfully passed the initial Visual Testing (VT) examination.

The samples will now progress to further inspection and testing, including:

🔍 Radiographic Testing (RT)
🔍 Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
🔍 Macro Etch Examination

These tests will verify weld integrity and confirm compliance with the required qualification standards.

A great first result for the team — now onto the next stage of testing! 👏

Taking Shape on Merseyside ⚓

We’re proud to be fabricating and installing the handrail systems for two new vessels currently under construction for Western Ferries at Balaena’s Birkenhead shipyard (formerly Cammell Laird).

Projects like this showcase the skill, precision and craftsmanship of our fabrication team. Every section is manufactured to the highest standards, ensuring safety, quality and durability in a demanding marine environment.

It’s fantastic to play a part in another significant shipbuilding project here on the Wirral, supporting British engineering and manufacturing.

✅ EN 1090 Accreditation Successfully Renewed

We’re pleased to announce that OWS Engineering has once again successfully passed our external EN 1090 audit and renewed our certification. This accreditation demonstrates our continued commitment to quality, compliance and the highest standards of structural steel fabrication.

Maintaining EN 1090 certification requires rigorous auditing of our factory production control systems, quality processes and manufacturing standards, ensuring our customers can have complete confidence in the products and services we deliver.

🌍 ISO 14001 Successfully Renewed 🌍

We’re pleased to share that OWS Engineering has once again successfully passed its external audit and renewed its ISO 14001 Environmental Management Certification.

This certification demonstrates our ongoing commitment to reducing environmental impact, improving environmental performance and ensuring responsible working practices across all areas of our business.

Maintaining these standards requires continuous effort throughout the year, and we’d like to thank everyone involved in supporting the audit process. Another productive day in the workshop this week as we welcomed representatives from InCon to witness welder qualification testing.

These test pieces, completed under the supervision of our QA/QC Manager, Dan, form part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality, compliance and workmanship across all projects.
