Varndell Engineering is an established, Oxfordshire-based Structural Engineering firm that specialises in making ‘the impossible, possible’ by working closely with clients and their architects to make their dreams a practical reality. The successful candidate will be flexible and understanding in their approach to working with demanding clients and their architects.
📍 Location: Bicester, Oxfordshire
Role
Working directly with the Managing Director, the Senior Structural Engineer will support the management and delivery of projects on time and to budget. The primary aim of the role is to provide the structural design and detail for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. To supervise and develop the skills of the technical team whilst working closely with Architects on niche projects to deliver bespoke and innovatively engineered solutions by thinking creatively to challenge the ‘norm’.
What you’ll be responsible for:
Structural design and detail for residential, commercial and industrial projects, produce 3D design models, feasibility studies, inspections, surveys and reports
Management and delivery of projects alongside the team of technical staff
Line management duties to supervise and develop employee’s skills
Liaising closely with Architects, clients, contractors, developers and other professionals within our organisation
Preparation and review of fee quotations for new projects
What we’re looking for:
Competency to design in a range of materials including steel, concrete, timber and masonry
The ability to work with minimal supervision and within time constraints to efficiently deliver projects/reports on time and within budget
You will work closely with Architects on unique, high-end residential projects to produce bespoke details, so effective communication is key
The capacity to think creatively and in new ways by challenging the ‘norm’ to produce innovative engineering solutions
Strong written and verbal communication skills
What you need:
A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
Preferred minimum 8 years industry experience within the UK
Experience of working for a smaller practice and successfully and efficiently managing projects
A high level of competency using TEDD’s, Tekla Structural Designer, AutoCAD and MS Office.
Experience using Total Synergy would be beneficial, but not essential.
Full UK driving license
