Making a Difference Together at Our Macmillan Coffee Morning

Project Spotlight | National Innovation Centre

Located within Newcastle’s Helix site, the National Innovation Centre, also known as The Catalyst, is a Grade A, six-storey office building featuring a distinctive diagrid structure.

The project incorporates ‘Y’ frame columns that gradually rotate throughout the height of the building, creating a 7.5° taper from top to bottom.

A substantial temporary works package was adopted to overcome the challenges of erecting the unique structure within a city centre environment, while cellular beams were utilised to create clear-span office spaces.

With 735Te of steelwork, fabrication and er****on were completed in just 11 weeks.

Project Spotlight | Ardnahoe Distillery 🥃

Located on the north-eastern side of the Isle of Islay, Ardnahoe became the island’s ninth distillery and its first new distillery in 15 years.

J&D Pierce began site works in June 2017, with Cask 001 being filled by November 2018. Delivering the project on an island brought its own challenges, with every site delivery transported by ferry and teams working around unpredictable Scottish weather and late architectural changes.

The finished building features a combination of Kingspan trapezoidal and single-ply roof sheeting, feature aluminium verges, deep soffit returns, vertical Russwood Siberian Larch timber cladding and powder-coated aluminium entrance pods.

Despite the logistical and design challenges, the project was successfully delivered on time and on budget.
