The consultation on the draft SEAC opinion regarding the proposed restriction of PFAS substances in the EU closes at midnight on 25th May 2026.

If you manufacture, supply or use fluoropolymer sealing materials such as FKM, FFKM or PTFE, this is highly relevant to your business.

Ceetak Ltd: Sealing Solutions believes that, in formulating the draft opinion, Sealing Applications (Sector 17) have not yet been assessed in sufficient technical depth. As a result, application-specific considerations regarding alternatives, technical feasibility, costs, benefits and proportionality for critical sealing technologies may not yet be fully represented.

📆This consultation provides an important opportunity for manufacturers, suppliers and end users to submit additional technical and commercial information to help ensure the final SEAC opinion reflects the practical realities and performance requirements of sealing applications across industry.

For many large diameter O-ring applications, traditional manufacturing methods have either required very large (and expensive) dedicated mould tools, or involved producing the seal from extruded cord which is then cut to length and bonded together to create the final ring ⭕

While suitable for many general applications, these spliced O-rings can introduce potential weak points at the glued or vulcanised joint. Particularly in more demanding environments involving vacuum, pressure, large chambers or critical process systems.

Differences in material properties across the joined area can potentially impact long-term sealing reliability, installation consistency and leakage performance in critical applications.
