New Product Announcement

We have been working with a customer who's currently building an FIA race car and one of the rules is you are not allowed adjustable spring platforms so coilovers are not allowed, but the customer needed to drop the car to the permitted ride height and have the flexibility of spring rates afforded by using off the shelf 2.25" springs.

We took the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone and come up with a product for those people on a budget who just want to lower their car 2" and put some slightly stiffer springs on it over the standard Anglia 90lb springs to improve the handling a little without going mad.

Absolutely no point in going crazy with spring rates as the Anglia front dampers are not designed to control a spring over 110lbf and after 50 plus years, their ability to control a 160lb spring for example is not advisable.

The kit comes as standard with a really nice pair of 130lb Sheffield made springs to ensure a really nice ride quality.

Along with helper springs to ensure there is no banging and clanging when the suspension is on full droop.

TRACK CONTROL ARMS

We've had a few messages over the last couple of days from potential customers concerned about how we modify our Track Control (TCA's) or Lower Arms.

I would not normally share how we do things, but as this has clearly been a safety concern for the people who took time out to message, to reassure people, this is the process your arms go through when they are sent to us.

The arms are first checked to ensure they are a pair and that the joints are serviceable.

Then they are cut to the appropriate length for the application, steering box or steering rack, Anglia, MK1 Cortina, Mk2 Cortina, Prefect, Classic etc

From our workshop they go to the machine shop where they are are machined using a horizontal borer, this just rounds the ends of the H section so the threaded socket is almost an interference fit. The sockets are then pressed in place forming a mechanical fixing, so any load is shared by the arm and socket together and not totally reliant on a weld, this also reduces any stress on the welds making it as strong as it can be.

From the machine shop they go to our fabricator who then welds the arm and socket top and bottom and then puddle welds up into the H section on both sides. We have used this method for decades and in that time we have never had a single failure.

As with all our safety critical items, TCA's, steering columns etc, they are welded by a professional, coded welder using industrial welding sets.

Once modified they come back to us for the final paint and fit up, they all leave us with stainless steel spacers in the rose joints or poly bushes in the Milton cubes, new grease ni***es and our lovely poly joint covers which, once bolted to the steering arm is compressed sealing the top of the joint from water ingress prolonging joint life.

Yes, I accept this is a long winded process as putting work out does cause delays, but we put your safety above time scales every time.

Today marks the 16th anniversay of Kevin Woods passing.

Here he is pictured outside the original Milton workshop on Milton Street in Maidstone as part of a feature for Classic & Sports Car Magazine, sitting on the bonnet of Steve Littlers lovely low mileage example which had one of the first steering rack conversions and a custom 5 link set up on the rear, it ended up running a VeganTune twin cam motor and competing in many a sprint. I was offered the car by Steve many years ago and I should have bought it as there were so many of Kevins little touches on the car that most people wouldnt notice but they all went together to make it such a lovely little thing.

In the background is Trevors Cossie powered Anglia van, which is almost finished apparently, an absolute work of art and anyone who was lucky enough see its build in progress, the cage was lovely and the pedal box Tony designed was just an absolute work of art. The brief was, Trevor wanted to sit in the original factory position, but with the bulkhead coming back and the bigger tunnel to take the T5 gearbox some real innovation was needed to get the pedal box into what was left of the space and present the pedals in as close to the factory position as possible. Tonys design put the pedals at 90 degrees to the bulkhead, running parallel to it and operated using bell cranks. Between Tonys design and Kevins fabrication it all came together.

For many old school Anglia people a trip to Milton Street to collect parts or drop parts off to be modified was always a great day out. I remember driving up the driveway for the first time thinking this cant be it and looking at a row of lock up garages and thinking I must be in the wrong place, but one door was open and as I walked up to ask the person inside if they knew where Milton was, I realised this was it, I had arrived at my destination.

Kevin always had time for people and would always take time to explain everything and answer the endless questions people had in those days before forums and facebook and he just loved to talk about Anglias. Although strangely his favourite car was the 100E, but as Old Ford Autos were doing the parts of them he stuck to the Anglias he had raced back in the 70's

That was Kevin and his dad Tony, both old school, proper people, lovely to deal with.

Many of you will no doubt have a memory of Kevin so please feel free to share them, I often chat to the likes of Russ who helped Kevin out with fabrication after he took ill and who worked with Lee throught his tenure at the helm and we do have a laugh about Kevin and some of the things that went on. Speaking to Jeff who does bits for Milton now and John Castelle a very long in tooth Anglia man, we often share a story or two and think of the old boy.

I've heard it said Milton finished when Kevin died, but it didnt, Tony and Lee and then Lee & Sue kept it going and now I have the responsibility of keeping it going and Kevin is still here in everything we do now, every change I make every new product I release the first thought is always, would Kevin be happy with that ? You cannot hire that kind of quality controller.

So for those of you who knew him, its a lovely day today, have big mug of tea and take your Anglia for spin round the block.

Had a nice little trip down memory lane today when a customer sent me these pictures snapped when he visited the Milton Street workshop in Maidstone as a young man back in the very early 2000's

The shell in the workshop evolved into quite a beast

And the car just peeping round the door belonged to me, it was then sold to a guy who went on to do a lot of the Milton fabrication when Kevin took ill, then worked with Kevin & Tony and then with Lee and he still works for Milton now.

The car changed hands recently and is now in the safe hands of Tony Creed awaiting a build.

Batch of New Zealand Spec Consul Classic 315 Steering arms back from Powder Coating and ready to ship.

This is the last batch we will be doing for a while as they are not a massive seller as most people use Mk2 Cortina struts these days, and of course we do New Zealand Spec versions of those too.

What is New Zealand Spec ?

Well in NZ they have Construction & Use rules just as most countries do but NZ rules are the toughest we have encountered, these arms are manufactured to comply with those rules so if they are legal in NZ they are legal anywhere.

Price is £175 plus £10 carriage in the UK and £40 carriage to NZ

Another batch of our TCA cubes just picked up from the machine shop. Ideal if you feel rose joints are just a little too harsh or if you are in a classic / historic race series where spherical bearings are not allowed.

They have a 5/8" UNF thread so if you have TCA's that have this thread, you can swap your rose joints out for these cubes for a more road friendly, comfy feel.

3 pair already gone on Pre-Order. 7 pairs left
