Decided to make some direct fitting rings for my HV benchrest rifle. BAT bases and Kelbly rings weighed 95g, managed to loose 35g. Would have liked to go lower but NF scope has a lump on the mag ring right where the bolt handle passes it on 42x. Will clear anodise in the New Year.

Last stock for 2025. On my Christmas wish list this year is for stock blank manufacturers to 1) set the blank up on the centre line of the laminate before machining and 2) make the bits that need to be straight, square, parallel and to the size the regs stipulate correct.

Latest inletting/bedding job. Kelbly action into AS stock. First of these new generation of exotic wood stocks I’ve seen that the maker took enough care over it to carve it with the centre laminate in the centre of the stock. Well done AS, Italy 1, rest of world nil.

My retirement plan was to work full time until March 2026 then just do part time for a couple of years. However in UK you cannot run a part time business without the costs of a full time one and having just renewed my RFD for another three years, had the usual eye watering renewal on the business insurance including being forced to upgrade my alarm system and still having 200+ Bartleins on the shelf I’ve decided to carry on for a few more years. Janette says I’d only be messing about in the workshop anyway.

Workshop clearout all free to the first person who turns up when they say they will and takes it all away. There are 3 x 5” Truegrip collet chucks, a D13 chuck backplate, machine light, set of boring bars, set of imperial plug gauges and a 3 1/2”Record vice. Want It out of the way so it’s heading for the scrap next week if no one wants it.
