ImageWorks Photography is my own company that has grown over the last few years. I am the cliche photographer in that I've been taking photographs since I was a kid using my Argos special 35mm point and shoot camera. I loved that camera - the shutter had a light leak so almost every shot of mine had a burst of red and orange in the bottom right of the frame. My Dad bought that camera for himself a

nd I started using it more and more. By the end of it's life that camera had a fried light meter (top tip, don't leave a camera on the parcel shelf of a car when it's roasting outside) and a viewfinder prism that would only align correctly after a specific shake of the camera (blame my mother for that one - she dropped on concrete). From there I went digital, my first being a whole megapixel of point and shoot camera that had awe inspiring 32mb card and then onto a Nikon D40 slr, courtesy of my wife. My first wedding came about when a friend of my sister asked if I would shoot her wedding, having never done one before. And that was it. I was bitten and been shooting weddings ever since. I've also, by similar means, branched into home portrait sessions and commercial photography from working in schools and nurseries to recruitment agencies. I've always kept my equipment to a basic minimum. That said, I wouldn't ask Mrs W to confirm this - she is of the firm opinion that have too much "stuff" that is "always in the way"
But my style of photography stems from having very little in terms of equipment making me rely heavily on whatever is at hand to use. The upshot of this is (no pun intended) is that people immediately relax in front of the lens. There isn't a massive barrel of a lens looking at them, nor are there megawatts of lighting flashing away. It's kept simple allowing me to capture the best of people, young and old. I can blend into the background and capture the action or offer direction where needed without being too obtrusive. I live and breathe photography. My camera is always by my side. I'm always scouring Flickr for inspiration and youtube for fresh ideas. My mantra for photography is to concentrate on photography - not to get bogged down with several styles of package with mini albums, big albums, photo books, calendars or t-shirts. But to concentrate on getting the best out of everybody and get everybody looking their best so the photographs becomes something special. Our Story

I eventually assumed possession of a Praktica 35mm SLR that belonged to my Dad. By the end of that cameras life it had a fried light meter (top tip, don’t leave a camera on the parcel shelf of a car when it’s roasting outside) and a viewfinder prism that would only align correctly after a vigorous shake of the camera (blame my mother for that one – she dropped it on the patio). From there I went digital, my first being a whole megapixel of point and shoot glory that had awe inspiring 32mb card!

My first wedding came about when a friend of my sister asked if I would shoot her wedding. This was most definitely a first as at this point I’m still taking artistic photographs of fruit and vegetables in black and white! And that was it – I’ve been shooting weddings ever since. I’ve also, by similar means, branched into home portrait sessions and commercial photography from working in schools and nurseries to recruitment agencies.

These days although I’m based in Barnard Castle, wedding photography has taken me far and wide from Scotland to Devon. I’m still waiting for that one phone call that will take me abroad, but in the meantime I’m thrilled and proud to call myself a wedding photographer covering Barnard Castle, Darlington, Stockton, Yarm, Durham, Newcastle, Sunderland, Scotland, Bournemouth …
