Yep, it flies!
A successful day yesterday with the '65 2.0 cup car, shaking-down the MCE Solex race engine build at Goodwood circuit. Building a race car with an early 2L engine on Solex carbs to run like this, at the limit, lap after lap, is no easy feat, and I'd be first to admit, requires a level engineering tenacity only discoverable after many long hours in the workshop. So it is with great pleasure when I occasionally actually get to enjoy the fruits of my labours, from behind the wheel (insert 'pats himself on the back' emoji here 😁).

Back in 1997, I was honoured to be offered my first graduate engineering role with the then well-established consultancy TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing). Through the '80s and '90s, Tom had built-up an automotive engineering business as the UK's answer to Porsche, with a string of sucessess in road and race car development, and it was to become the foundation of my industry experience from that point on, travelling the globe testing, re-engineering, developing and manufacturing some of the worlds finest sports cars. Today at the first Bicester Scramble event of the year, a special celebration was held to celebrate 50 years since TWR's foundation, and it has been a pleasure to re-unite with colleagues from that era and see again many of the cars I had the pleasure to be involved with at that time. 'Thank-you, Tom, for the opportunity, and for the legacy of incredible cars from the era'.

After 38 years dormant, this 1968 SWB Porsche 911 2.0S, rescued from dereliction in a Pennsylvania barn where it was left to the elements in 1988, has finally been brought back to life.....First-fire of the original engine after rebuild: a milestone to celebrate. Just an interior to finish restoring now, then it will be ready for the roads again 🥳

When you plumb the rebuilt engine in, fire it up for the first time, and throttle response is like this, you know you've built something special 🙂.....'67 2.0 Alu case case engine converted to 2.5L hot-rod, first fire-up and initial carb tune after rebuild 👌

So that's 6 air-cooled 911 engines in build at MCE currently, including 2.0L FIA, 2.0L SWB 2.5L hot-rod, 2.7RS, 3.2 Carrera, and 3.3 Turbo. It's a good job I can remember which bits go where 😄
