Project Reflection | Malahide, Dublin

As the year comes to a close, we are casting our minds back to a stunning residential project we were proud to be part of in Malahide, Dublin.

Designed by the renowned Melville Dunbar Associates, this beautiful home is a Victorian Style Dwelling and showcases classic architectural detail.

The build consisted off the Demolition of existing two storey dwelling and construction of 580m² prestigious four bedroom, three storey family residence with outbuilding and designed grounds.

We were delighted to supply a range of high-quality cast stone elements, including:
▪️Window/Door Surrounds with structural lintols
▪️Sills String Course
▪️First Floor front Balcony Band String Course & Copings
▪️Grand front entrance steps and landing

Each piece was manufactured to meet the exact design specification, enhancing both the visual appeal and durability of the property. It was a pleasure to contribute to this project.

Project Lookback 🧱

📍Station Square, Portrush.
Client:
Designer:
Contractor: FP McCann Ltd

We’re proud to reflect on Craftstone’s role in one of Northern Ireland’s standout urban regeneration projects: Station Square, Portrush.

Back in 2012 Craftstone was commissioned to supply bespoke architectural cast stone elements that helped transform this key gateway into the town.

We were involved in the early stages to make recommendations on how best to make the mast to ensure ease of building. A number of samples were produced in specific colours and finishes as requested by the architect The Paul Hogarth Company and in consultation with FP McCann Ltd, a non-standard buff colour was chosen.

The £2.3M redevelopment project was funded by , the Department for Social Development, and Tourism Northern Ireland with the shared vision of creating a vibrant, modern space that reflects Portrush seaside heritage.

The finished scheme is a vibrant and welcoming space with the feature ships masts standing impressively at one end of the square, Craftstone’s contributions helped blend traditional charm with contemporary design.

We’re delighted to have played a part in creating a space now enjoyed year-round by locals and visitors alike, even 13 years later!

Heading to The Open in Portrush this July? Make sure to look out for this incredible project!

Project 🧱

📍Bernish House

Contractor: LIR Construction

With springtime approaching and brighter days ahead, we thought it was the perfect moment to revisit an incredible landscape project in Northern Ireland.

Craftstone was proud to be a part of this collaboration with the immensely talented Diarmuid Gavin, an award-winning garden designer.

We supplied Circular stepping slabs ranging size from 1500mm-2500mm in our Mourne Granite mix.

We were honoured to receive these kind words from him about the project:

“As a garden designer, I am always searching for ways to merge functionality with beauty, ensuring that every element of a garden serves both practical and aesthetic purposes. For a private garden project in Newry, Northern Ireland, I envisioned a series of circular concrete-reinforced slabs that would not only provide access across a sloping site but also stand as a striking sculptural centrepiece. This required a level of craftsmanship and precision beyond the ordinary. Craftstone took on this challenge with remarkable skill, delivering a series of beautifully cast, large-scale circular steps that exceeded all expectations.

Their ability to interpret and execute my vision with such accuracy was exceptional. The surfaces of the slabs are stunning, providing a tactile, visually engaging feature that harmonises perfectly with the surrounding perennial planting and pictorial meadow. By day, these steps define the garden’s structure, offering a bold yet elegant counterpoint to the softness of the planting. By night, underlighting transforms them into floating discs, reinforcing their sculptural quality and enhancing the garden’s atmosphere. Their presence has truly been the making of this project.”
