Ian’s Bike Bits

Ian’s Bike Bits In an effort to complete my own classic bike rebuilds I’ve come across several parts which are either hard to find or no longer available.

I’m just starting out making a few small batches of several items in need to help finish my restorations.

Why Chicken Shed Motorcycles?
I like BSA Bantams, A Motorcycle, but also a breed of Chicken. I keep the Bantams in my shed, hence Chicken Shed Motorcycles.
I designed a logo and put it on a T Shirt.

I’ve had some stainless steel ‘Hammer head’ fork bottom brackets laser cut and formed as I couldn’t find any decent forks only the earlier straight bottom legs.
They clamp on under the wheel nut, or could be welded to the brand new stainless legs which are available elsewhere.
I’m going to fit these to my 54 D3 Green lane bike in the coming week so will post more photos when I’m done.

I’ve got another product on offer to I just need time to finish fitting then I’ll post them on here too.

Have a great weekend.

I’ve had some early style bottom fork nuts turned up, reverse engineered from an original unused set I found on eBay a long while back.
I’m keeping the originals for my 1948 Bantam, but selling the 5 pairs I had machined.
If you’re interested they’re first come first served, £56 a pair. Incl postage in the UK.

The dull pair are the originals, the shiny ones are the ‘copies’ they’re stainless steel, a couple have some minor scuffs from the chick on the lathe.

I’m hoping to fit mine onto my bike in the next few days.

That’s another one started, 1958 D5, bought for a tank, and the tank wasn’t a D5 one either, now I’ve got a frame and a load of parts to assemble.
Maybe I should finished the 48 D2 and Trail Bronc tribute first?
Nuts and bolts missing now, so can’t get much further without going to rummage through the nut & bolt trays at work.

Wheels are on, trued and tyred, need some handlebars so I can roll it around. Need to spray the cream panel on the tank and start building the engine. #1948

Got this one started again yesterday, needs a mini service then can get back out again.
1962 B40 with a 1969 B25 engine until I can find a decent B40 engine.

Little update on the 2 current projects (no.3 is going to make an appearance too soon!) I’m still collecting small parts for the D7, although most of it is ready to go off to the blasters then get powder coated in either satin black or Gloss Blue like the original Trail Broncs, I think I’m going to go for RAL5012 for the tank and rear mudguard, no front mudguard on the trail bronc, but I think I’ll make a brake up to stick the forks from wobbling about too much.
The 48 D1 is coming in slowly, I have most of the parts for this but severely lacking in workshop time, I’ll try to get a little more done but I’ve actually gone backward since this photo, the tyres come back in as I’m not happy with how true the rear wheel is so that’s a job for this week.

On top of these I’m also working on some new products, a D5 battery holder or at least the back and bottom (although I’m still looking for the top and front section)
A 3v battery holder for inside the headlight on the D1 models.
Reproduction D1/3/5 stand stop plates aking with another batch of the D1/3/5 footrest bars and spacers.
Plus also another fork component although I’ll keep this under wraps for now.

Went for my first ride of the year today, on my 1977 Kawasaki Z750b Twin, a little later than usual but great to get out, spring is definitely on its way. I even passed someone cutting their grass!
Took me a while to find a fault on the Kawasaki, float bowls were set too low so it was starving the carbs at high revs. The bike has been sat for a few months over winter without being started, took a little time to get firing on both cylinders but once warmed and with fresh super unleaded it’s running nicely now.
