🔎🌿 WONDER WEDNESDAY — CASE CLOSED!

Last week, the Nature Detectives were investigating a rather unusual discovery…
🕵️‍♀️ RETRO RUBBISH! 🕵️‍♂️
I'd found a crisp packet that had been lying partially buried, and asked you to look closely at the clues and guess how old you thought it was.
And the answer was…
🎉 1999! 🎉
Yep — that little crisp packet had been around since the last century!
It got me thinking about how easily something we use for a few minutes can stick around in the environment for a very long time.
Which is why the little Nature Detective missions aren't just about finding interesting things — they're about noticing what's around us and thinking about the impact of the things we leave behind. 🌱🔎
CASE CLOSED! ✅

🌿💚 A little community garden TLC on Lime Tree Avenue!

Yesterday, Julia, her two grandchildren and myself spent a bit of time giving the two community garden spaces on Lime Tree Avenue some much-needed TLC.
There was a little bit of everything hiding amongst the weeds and plants — so we got our gloves on, cleared the weeds, picked up the litter and gave the spaces a good old tidy-up. 🧤🌱
And what better way to spend some time outdoors than getting stuck in together? The two youngsters were brilliant little helpers and it was lovely seeing them getting involved, helping to look after their community. 💚
Three generations, a couple of pairs of gloves, plenty of teamwork and two community spaces looking a whole lot happier! 🌿✨

It's amazing what can happen when a few people decide to give a little bit of their time.

No bin nearby? Pop it in your pocket until you find one. Easy peasy! 🙌

And my friends at the School Sweet Shop are already being BRILL! 🍭 They’ve got the posters up and are supporting the challenge, reminding everyone to BE BRILL by putting the wrappers in the bins!

This bottle was found just a few steps away from its intended destination… and honestly, this is a regular occurrence on my Rubbish Rambles.

Today's Rubbish Ramble-
Another busy litter pick done! 🌿💚
Today saw a rather impressive collection of bottles and cans, with alcohol-related litter making up a good chunk of the haul. 🍻🥤
But rather than dwelling on the rubbish, I like to celebrating the good stuff.
I was out there doing my bit.
Street Scene were doing theirs.
And between us, we had those bags whisked away lickety split! 🚛
In fact, they were picking up my bags before I'd even had chance tie them up and photograph my haul!
So these five bags will have to suffice as photographic evidence.
Pick. Report. Collect. Repeat!
It's lovely when little bits of community effort all slot together and actually work. 💚
Another Rubbish Ramble, another bit of Armthorpe cared for.
Armthorpe is a great village — and it's even better when we all do our bit. 🌿💚

I'm officially a Litter Hero Ambassador! 🥹💚
What an absolute honour.
I'm so excited for what comes next and for all the fun, positive and maybe even slightly bonkers ways we can encourage more people to get involved.
Because this isn't just about picking up litter. It's about noticing, caring and taking pride in the places we live, and showing that we can make a difference together — one bottle, one Rubbish Ramble and one little act of kindness at a time. 🌿🧤
Here's to encouraging more people to join in, celebrating the wonderful things around us and finding new ways to make caring for our communities and the environment feel positive, achievable and even a little bit fun. 💚

🔎 WONDER WEDNESDAY — Nature Detectives: Retro Rubbish Edition!

Last week we were in Wonder… 🪶🌿
This week, we're wondering WHY?!
While out on a Rubbish Ramble, I spotted this partially buried in the ground.
A very familiar face from the crisp aisle… but how long has it been here? 👀
This is what I like to call RETRO RUBBISH — little pieces of litter that have been hiding in the environment for years and occasionally resurface to tell us a story.
So, Nature Detectives, let's investigate! 🔎
Look closely at the packaging.
There are clues hidden in plain sight that might help us work out when this packet was dropped.
Was it:
🕐 5 years ago?
🕐 10 years ago?
🕐 20 years ago?
🕐 Even older?! 😱

Did you guess last week’s feather mystery?

That gorgeous blue-and-black feather was a little clue from one of our beautiful woodland visitors.
