🔧 First Call & Fault Finding

When an air conditioning system stops working properly, the most important first step is understanding why.

Our engineers recently attended a first-call visit to investigate an air conditioning fault and identify what was preventing the system from operating as it should.

Rather than jumping straight to a repair, the visit focused on structured fault finding — checking the system, testing components and working through the symptoms to identify the actual cause.

Good diagnosis helps us:

✔ Identify the real issue
✔ Avoid unnecessary parts replacement
✔ Reduce disruption
✔ Plan the right repair
✔ Get systems back up and running as efficiently as possible

Not every fault can be fixed on the first visit, but every good repair starts with the same thing:

Diagnose first. Repair second.

That’s also the focus of our latest Ask Oxford Air feature, where Service Desk Manager Matt Pike explains what happens from the moment you book a reactive call-out through to diagnosis, parts and follow-up.

What actually happens when you book a reactive call-out? 🔧

When something goes wrong with your air conditioning or refrigeration, the process should feel clear from the start.

For the latest Ask Oxford Air feature, our Service Desk Manager Matt Pike explains what happens from the moment you report a fault to diagnosis, repair and follow-up.

He covers:

What information the service desk will ask for
What helps before the engineer arrives
What happens during the site visit
How fault finding works
Whether engineers carry replacement parts
What happens if a return visit is needed
How we keep customers informed throughout

The aim is simple: understand the problem properly, explain the next step clearly and get the system back to working order as efficiently as possible.

Behind the scenes: keeping our engineers ready for the jobs ahead 🔧

A recent delivery from Greenmill, one of our regular suppliers, has helped top up the equipment and materials our engineers rely on for upcoming service, repair and installation work.

There’s a lot that happens before an engineer arrives on site — from sourcing the right components and preparing materials to making sure the team has what it needs to diagnose, repair and install efficiently.

Keeping the right stock on hand helps us:

✔ Respond more effectively
✔ Reduce avoidable delays
✔ Keep service and repair work moving
✔ Prepare properly for upcoming installations

It’s one of the less visible parts of the job, but good preparation behind the scenes makes a real difference on site.

What’s wrong with my AC? 🔧

Leaks. Strange noises. Unusual smells. Weak performance.

These are some of the most common signs that an air conditioning system may need attention.

Some problems have simple explanations. Others need proper fault finding by an engineer.

Our latest Help & Advice guide explains what to look out for, what you can safely check yourself and when it’s time to stop troubleshooting and call for help.

🔧 Behind the scenes: PPM at an Abingdon dental practice

Our engineers recently carried out a Planned Preventative Maintenance visit at a dental practice in Abingdon, helping keep its air conditioning systems running reliably and efficiently.

The real value of PPM is simple:

✔ Spot problems earlier
✔ Reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns
✔ Help maintain system performance
✔ Support longer equipment life
✔ Keep maintenance planned rather than reactive

A customer relationship built over more than 15 years.

We’ve worked with BH Blackmore since 2010, installing and servicing air conditioning systems as the business has grown — including specialist temperature control for machine-room environments.

Brendan Blackmore, Managing Director, said:

“We would recommend Oxford Air to anyone looking for a quality service and installation.”

Long-term relationships like this say a lot about the value of getting installation, servicing and ongoing support right from the outset.

Summer’s over. Is your AC ready for autumn? 🍂

After a busy few months, now is a great time to make sure your air conditioning is clean, working properly and ready for the colder weather ahead.

A service can help pick up:

✓ Reduced airflow
✓ Unusual noises or smells
✓ Drainage issues
✓ Developing faults
✓ Wear after heavy summer use

And if you use your system for heating too, it’s much better to find any problems now than on the first really cold day.
