We recently completed the installation of a 7-metre NIKO swing jib crane fitted with a 500 kg Kito EQ electric chain hoist for a hydraulic workshop.

The system replaces a forklift-based handling method previously used to position hydraulic motors and pumps onto workbenches. The new arrangement provides controlled lifting at the point of work, reduces workshop congestion, and allows engineers to strip down and assemble equipment with more accurate load positioning.

For guidance on selecting the most suitable crane configuration for complex or space-restricted applications, read our technical blog: Optimising Crane Selection for Complex Lifting Projects 🔗

🌟⚙️Optimising Turbine Component Movement⚙️🌟

We recently supported a client seeking a safer and more efficient method for transferring turbine components between their storage and test areas.

Following a detailed on-site assessment by Production Manager Gavin Fraser, we specified a Gebuwin - quality winches SD125 Swivel Davit Crane as the most effective solution. The new system removes manual handling from the process, improves workflow consistency and enhances overall operational safety.

Our team delivered the full scope of work — equipment supply, installation, load testing and certification — providing the customer with a fully compliant, productivity-boosting lifting solution.

🔥 Raising Expectations🔥

Lifting systems don’t all live in nice, climate-controlled warehouses. Some operate where others won’t even ship engineers. From salt-soaked marine decks to gale-force offshore platforms, extreme environments demand next-level design thinking.

Our latest blog breaks down what it really takes to engineer lifting equipment systems that thrive where corrosion, vibration, temperature swings and unpredictable conditions are the norm. Whether you’re facing offshore, marine, petrochemical or other harsh settings, this is a must-read for anyone responsible for lifting solutions in tough conditions.

• Key design challenges in hostile environments
• How smart engineering choices extend reliability and safety
• Real-world insights that go beyond off-the-shelf solutions

Those with experience in the lifting industry know that lifting within a confined-space presents a unique set of challenges — especially when headroom is tight and safety standards are non-negotiable.

Our team recently engineered a custom ultra low headroom hoist and gantry system for handling a 6-tonne radiation test unit within a nuclear facility. Designed, manufactured, painted, tested and certified entirely in-house, this solution delivered precise lifting performance where standard equipment simply wouldn’t fit.

It also builds on previous projects for the same site, including a 1-tonne winch and a 2-tonne electric chain hoist — reinforcing our capability to support complex, specialist environments.

One of our previous offshore projects showcases how tailored engineering can overcome the lifting limitations often found beneath the drill floor. We supported a client with a custom-designed 10 tonne ATEX pneumatic overhead crane engineered for a confined area where existing rig cranes couldn’t reach.

The project required a fully custom approach: early design consultations, FEA analysis, detailed offshore documentation, and final installation by our certified offshore engineer. The result was a safe, efficient and compliant lifting solution for handling critical well intervention equipment. 🌟A New Chapter for Red Rooster Lifting 🌟

After 32 years of dedicated service, we say a heartfelt thank you to Bill Aitken as he retires from his role as Managing Director. Bill has been central to Red Rooster Lifting’s growth, from developing our fully self-sufficient production operation to securing milestone projects.

His retirement was celebrated with colleagues, family and international partners, including a speech from Lena Fraser, commendations from Mr Nauta of Rami Yokota, and a traditional sake toast from Ken Takagi of Toku.

We are also pleased to announce that Paul Shewan has stepped into the role of Managing Director. Since joining Red Rooster Lifting in 2008 as a Mechanical Fitter, Paul has built deep technical expertise across assembly, testing, project management and production leadership. His work on custom pneumatic lifting systems for the Culzean project is one of several standout achievements.

As Managing Director, Paul will focus on continuity, global expansion, and diversifying beyond the UK oil and gas sector — while strengthening collaboration across the business.

🚧 Custom Lifting at Hinkley Point 🚧

We recently supported Balfour Beatty and EDF by delivering a custom lifting solution for a critical tunnel shaft project at Hinkley Point. Our team supplied 11 × 2 tonne air hoists and a bespoke multi-hoist control panel, enabling:

🔺Synchronized lifting of a large circular shuttering pan
🔺Individual hoist control for precision alignment
🔺Safe transfer of materials to platform levels through trapdoors

🛥️ Rapid Hoist Hire & On-Site Service Keeps FPSO Life Extension on Track 🛥️

At Red Rooster Lifting, we know that downtime in onshore and offshore projects is costly. That’s why our team combines reliable hoist hire with fast, expert on-site service.

During a major FPSO life extension project at a UK dry dock, we supplied nine 15-tonne air hoists and trolleys. Eight supported propeller works, while one handled the critical removal of turret components, essential for the vessel’s station-keeping and subsea connectivity.

When an operator issue affected the hoist in use, our Production Manager, Gavin Fraser, mobilised at short notice. He diagnosed the problem, stripped, rebuilt, and reinstalled the unit on-site, ensuring lifting operations resumed quickly and safely. A follow-up visit two months later confirmed optimal setup for reinstallation.

This case highlights:
✅ Fast turnaround for hoist hire & repair
✅ Deep technical expertise deployed on-site
✅ Robust aftersales support, including follow-up visits
✅ Trusted lifting solutions for high-stakes offshore operations

Proud to be at LEEA - The Lifting Equipment Engineers Association LiftEx 2025 — and putting real inspection skills to the test 💪

This year, we brought something authentic to the floor: a hoist returned from heavy offshore service, displayed beside a fully refurbished, certified unit. The contrast tells its own story — how corrosion accelerates wear, how incorrect operation creates damage, and how planned maintenance dramatically extends the working life of an air hoist.

To bring this to life, we’re running a hands-on Spot the Fault: From Rust to Robust challenge.
If you’re at LiftEx, come by Stand 3A, find the failures and chat with our team about how proper maintenance protects performance, safety and lifecycle.

By combining custom design, supply, hire, maintenance and training, Red Rooster provides customers with a complete lifecycle service for lifting equipment — helping operators meet their legal obligations, remaining compliant, efficient and safe.

🔧 Precision Overhead Crane Installation for Renewable Fabrication 🔧

Red Rooster Lifting recently carried out the installation and commissioning of two Street Crane single girder overhead cranes in a new fabrication facility in the North East of Scotland.

Our team handled every stage of the project, including landing and positioning the cranes, installing a 55-metre conductor rail system, connecting power, performing load testing, and issuing full compliance reports.

The 10 tonne and 1 tonne cranes now provide the facility with dependable, high-performance lifting capability, optimised for material handling within the renewable energy supply chain.

Alongside installation, we delivered crane consultation and lifecycle support, ensuring long-term operational reliability and compliance with industry standards.
