Hello All, just a little note regarding tow bar electrics, When i price up a tow bar to supply and fit, I am often not the cheapest, and i do wonder why sometimes, because i don't make a lot of money out of it, however the reason could be this, there are basically 2 types of electric kits, a universal kit which is around £25 to buy, or a kit that has been made specifically for your vehicle, which can often cost up to £150 or more, so a big difference.
The universal kits are absolutely fine and will work for many years on the correct vehicle, however the problems occur when you fit them onto new vehicles, especially ones still under warranty, and with warranty periods from 3 to 7 years it is more and more common place, the new car cannot recognise or communicate with the universal kits, and this can often give problems with the complex electric systems on todays vehicles, a kit made specifically for your vehicle, will work in complete harmony with it, it will communicate fully, it will know when you are towing and on some vehicles this activates towing modes on the vehicle, it will give you fog light and reverse sensor cut out ( where applicable) and if you are unfortunate enough to have to make a warranty claim you won't have any problems with a VSK (Vehicle Specific Kit) fitted.
Unlike the owner of a car i saw at a dealer recently who is having all sorts of problems now because they had the universal kit fitted to their brand new car, the manufacturers warranty could be void, because the wrong electric kit was fitted, so massive problems really,
For most people you are not going to know what the difference is, so i hope this has explained it a little better, and be aware that i have been surprised how many tow bar fitters and companies fit the universal kits to brand new vehicles, so it's always best to ask what you are getting.

So if you're going to spend £15k and upwards on a new vehicle, don't scrimp on the tow bar folks.

Just a note about removing dual controls, please do not get ripped off with this, I have learnt today that an ADI paid £150 to someone that was recommended to her, and they claimed it took them 4 hours, this makes my blood boil, this is a 20 minute job which I will do for free if I am fitting dual controls at the same time, or £40 if I come to you to remove them, and you can keep the dual controls or I will take them away, it's your choice

Happy to help this morning, An ADI wanted to purchase a Kia Stonic, but He Man do not do dual controls for them, So Universal controls were not her favourite option, After i did a bit of research i found the Stonic is based on the Kia Rio, a quick trip to the dealer to compare footwells, and pedals confirmed they are the same. So happy days and i hope to be fitting them soon, wait for the photos, and if you're thinking of getting one please get in touch.
