Types of Engine Coolant (Antifreeze)

Engine coolant, also known as antifreeze, plays a vital role in maintaining the correct engine operating temperature. It prevents overheating in hot weather, protects against freezing in cold conditions, and helps prevent corrosion inside the cooling system. Different coolant colors often indicate different chemical technologies, although color alone should never be used to determine compatibility.

🟢 Green Coolant (IAT) is commonly used in older vehicles and contains silicates and phosphates for corrosion protection. It usually requires more frequent replacement.

🔴 Red/Pink Coolant (OAT) uses organic acid technology and offers extended service life with excellent protection for aluminum components and modern engines.

🔵 Blue Coolant (HOAT) combines the benefits traditional and organic technologies, providing strong corrosion resistance and long-lasting performance.

🟡 Yellow Coolant is often a hybrid formulation designed for compatibility with multiple vehicle brands. It provides balanced protection against rust, scale, and corrosion.

🟠 Orange Coolant is an advanced long-life coolant designed for modern high-performance engines. It offers excellent thermal stability and extended service intervals.

Always consult your vehicle manufacturer's specifications before selecting coolant. Mixing different coolant types can reduce protection and cause cooling system problems. Regularly checking coolant level and condition helps ensure efficient engine cooling, longer component life, and reliable vehicle performance. Proper coolant maintenance is essential for preventing costly engine repairs and overheating.

Victron Orion XS1400 12v DC to DC battery charger going in 🤯. So basically, the engine runs, Balmar 100A alternator chargers the start battery then the Victron Orion XS1400 12v DC to DC battery charger regulators voltage to be constant around 14.5 volts to help charge the Battle Born lithium house batteries. Life's good 👍.
