Even with correct timing, improper ex*****on can compromise the final result. These are the key factors to consider.

1️⃣ Work organization: Poor planning leads to surface defects and uneven finishes.
- Maintain aprox. 50% overlap between passes
- Use cross-pattern movements
- Keep a consistent working speed

2️⃣ Blade adjustment: Incorrect adjustment may cause marks, waves or surface burning.
- Initial phase: blades flat
- Finishing phase: gradual increase in blade pitch

3️⃣ Critical areas: These zones require special attention, as most defects occur there.
- Edges
- Columns
- Joints

4️⃣ Working conditions. Concrete behavior depends on:
- Temperature
- Humidity
- Mix design

💊 Pill 2 / 3 – How to identify the right time on site

On-site, the start of the troweling process should be based on observation, not on the clock. There are three simple and reliable checks.

1️⃣Footprint test. Walk carefully on the slab:
- Footprint of 3–5 mm: correct timing
- Deep footprint: too early
- No visible footprint: too late

2️⃣ Bleeding water observation. After screeding, water rises to the surface:
- As long as water is visible, do not start troweling
- The correct moment is when the surface becomes matte and uniform

3️⃣ Surface behavior. Key indicators:
- Finger leaves a light mark without sinking
- Surface is not sticky
- Slight resistance when scratched

✅When these three conditions are met, troweling can begin safely.

In concrete floor finishing, the moment when the power trowel is used is a decisive factor for the final surface quality.

This decision should not be based solely on time, but on the actual condition of the concrete.

❌ Too early: weak surfaces, dust formation and premature wear.
- The machine damages the surface
- Bleeding water (cement paste) rises
- Floor flatness is compromised

❌ Too late: porous, fragile surfaces with reduced durability.
- The surface has already hardened
- Pores cannot be properly closed
- The concrete may become “burnt” (dark, brittle finish)

✅ The right moment

There is a specific time window during the setting process when the concrete:
- Can be properly compacted
- Achieves a dense and uniform surface
- Ensures strength and durability

Last week was an especially active one for ENAR!

Alongside our presence at SMOPYC, we also took part in GIC in Piacenza, Italy, held from 16 to 18 April, that once again proved to be a valuable meeting point for the industry, allowing us to connect with professionals and share our solutions in a key market.
