How many crew members does it take to change a yacht lightbulb?

Only one, provided somebody remembered to bring the correct replacement :-)

A yacht can contain a surprising number of bulb types, fittings, colour temperatures and specialist lighting components. Finding an exact match in the Caribbean can be difficult, particularly for European systems, older fittings or lighting installed as part of a bespoke interior.

Before crossing, complete a lighting inventory and check the spares for guest areas, crew spaces, the galley, engine room, deck and emergency lighting.

October maintenance starts with ordering now.

When the Mallorca charter season ends, many yachts move straight into scheduled maintenance. Painting, varnishing and repair work can only begin if the correct products, colours and quantities are ready and waiting.

Start preparing your October order for:

Do not leave your teak maintenance until you reach the Caribbean.

JustTeak Cleaner removes dirt, stains, greying and old coatings, while the Brightener restores the wood’s natural colour. The Sealer then helps protect the teak against sun, rain, staining, mould and mildew.

The Med season is speeding past, and soon we will be prepping for yard refits.

What do you need to order in advance to make this as smooth as you can? Have a think! Typically we see orders for things such as: protection supplies for the interior and railings, made to order parts which need replacing, some of the suppliers (especially in Italy) have a lead time of up to 10 weeks for made to order parts… so plan ahead.

Some items need more than bubble wrap.

When a yacht is being emptied ahead of a refit, Cell-Aire foam provides a soft, non-abrasive layer of protection for delicate and highly finished items.

Supplied in lightweight rolls, it can be wrapped around china, glassware, artwork, mirrors, electronics, furniture, polished metal and painted surfaces. It can also be placed between stacked plates and other items to prevent scratching and rubbing while they are being moved or stored.

The closed-cell polyethylene foam offers light cushioning, resists moisture and clings to surfaces without slipping or leaving a greasy residue.

Miles can deliver large rolls of Cell-Aire foam directly to the yacht, together with bubble wrap, boxes, tape, scissors, labels and the other materials needed to pack everything safely before the refit begins.

This week’s interior request… Did you know that certain types of tea need different temperatures of hot water? Well, to be honest, we’d heard about it, but for the most part we are drinking cortados and there’s not so much green tea on the menu, unless Miles is in the office!
