The first RS3 DCS system was installed in 1984 in American Maize in Minnesota. In the next two decades some 3000 systems were sold worldwide. Nearly 40 years on, the RS3 still survives and has become the equivalent of the Cadillac or the Harley Davidson within the process control industry. There are still RS3 systems out there working and controlling production plants around the world today. This site is a nostalgic homage to the many engineers who were involved in the RS3’s long history. Optomation Systems was founded in 1996 by a group of RS3 experts from the Control Division of Fisher-Rosemount. Our in-depth knowledge of the system is second to none, simply because we continue to employ systems engineers who have worked with the system since its introduction in 1984. Over the years we have grown, diversified and specialized in other technologies and leading edge products. But due to customer demand (and a little nostalgia!) we still work with the RS3, offering engineering services, training courses, complements, spare part replacements and repairs. When Emerson announced their intention to abandon support, Optomation Systems reiterated its commitment to continue support for the RS3 system. Our customers are the faithful RS3 customers who do not want to or simply cannot afford to change the RS3 control system in their production plants. Customers including many multinationals who have happily discovered that there exists a company with sufficient structure and interest to provide comprehensive remote and local support for a system, which in its day was one of the leading systems in the control market. We have our own engineering systems for configuration and hardware testing and a large quantity of RS3 spare parts. We also have signed agreements with other companies to extend the services we can offer, including board repairs and replacements. Optomation Systems is a independent software house, with over 25 years experience of the RS3 Distributed Control System. In addition to RS3 application software, Optomation also supports compatible products and solutions that provide independent migratory paths and life extension for the RS3 control system.
