Ibiza’s closing parties were never just another weekend of clubbing. They were the final chapter of the summer, a few special days when house, techno and tech house took centre stage and clubbers could move around the island experiencing different venues, sounds and atmospheres.

In 2026, that tradition is starting to feel more like a scheduling war.

Friday 9 October is the clearest example. Hï Ibiza holds its official Closing Party, Marco Carola closes Music On at Pacha, Glitterbox closes at Amnesia, and now [UNVRS] has added David Guetta plus a special guest on exactly the same night.

Four major events. One Friday.

Ibiza has always had competing parties, so it would be wrong to pretend every club historically had a completely protected date. But closing parties are different. These are the nights people travel specifically to experience, and stacking so many of them together forces clubbers to choose what they are going to miss.

Saturday 10 October is hardly better. Amnesia celebrates its 50th Anniversary Closing Festival, [UNVRS] holds its official season Closing Party, Ushuaïa closes with ANTS during the day and Pacha begins its Grand Closing Weekend.

Instead of a closing week where people can experience several of Ibiza’s biggest clubs, Friday and Saturday have become two giant battles for the same crowd.

And that changes the whole feeling of Closing Weekend.

One of Ibiza’s great traditions was that the closing period felt like a journey through the island’s club culture. One night might belong to Amnesia, another to Pacha, another to Space or one of the other major venues. Different clubs had their moment.

Now everything is being compressed into a few hours.

There is also the question of David Guetta.

To be clear, this is not about denying his success. Guetta is one of the biggest DJs in electronic music history and has played an enormous role in Ibiza for years.

But that is exactly why his addition to Closing Weekend feels unnecessary.

He already has a major Ibiza residency and represents the most commercial end of electronic music. Does one of the most important weekends in Ibiza’s clubbing calendar really need another superstar EDM event when Music On, Glitterbox and Hï are already closing on the same night?

Closing parties traditionally represented Ibiza’s clubbing DNA: house, techno, tech house, disco, minimal, long sets, unexpected combinations and DJs playing for a dancefloor rather than simply delivering a festival-style greatest-hits show.

That is what makes [UNVRS]’s actual Closing Party the following night interesting. Adriatique, Dennis Cruz, East End Dubs, Franky Rizardo, Mochakk, The Martinez Brothers and WhoMadeWho feels far closer to the spirit of an Ibiza closing.

David Guetta plus a mystery superstar the night before feels more like a festival booking.

And this is the bigger concern.

Ibiza does not need to become Tomorrowland, Ultra or Las Vegas. Its value has always been that it is different. You can build huge LED screens anywhere. You can create VIP areas anywhere. You can book superstar DJs almost anywhere.

What cannot be copied so easily is Ibiza’s history, its clubs and the culture that made people travel there long before every night became a giant branded spectacle.

Commercial music absolutely has a place on the island. So do David Guetta, Calvin Harris, Martin Garrix and the other global names who attract huge crowds.

But Closing Weekend should also be one of the moments when Ibiza remembers what built its reputation in the first place.

Spread the major closings across more days. Give each club some room to breathe. Let people experience several venues rather than forcing them to choose between four major events on the same night.

That would be better for clubbers, better for the atmosphere and, arguably, better for Ibiza itself.

Because when Closing Weekend starts feeling like just another festival weekend, something important has already been lost.
