The defining element of the campus is its honeycomb cellular structure and courtyards. Zaha Hadid Architects worked with Arup to create buildings that “turn their back to the sun” to minimize solar heat gain and take advantage of prevailing desert winds. The campus incorporates five facilities: the Energy Knowledge Centre; the Energy Computer Centre; a Conference Centre with an exhibition hall and 300-seat auditorium; a Research Library with archives for 100,000 volumes; and the Musalla, a place for prayer & contemplation, as well as additional ancillary buildings located within a 60-hectare site. The cellular structure adapts to these multifunctional uses with the project, and at the same time, connects the buildings beneath a single vast canopy.

ZHA worked with Arup’s engineering team and Saudi Aramco to create an integrated approach to sustainability from the beginning, and a strategy for addressing critical issues from the concept design stage of the honeycomb cells through construction. The project’s self-shading courtyards, building massing, and orientation are designed to maximize the amount of natural daylight throughout the interior. The team’s hexagonal and prismatic honeycomb structures use the least material to create a lattice of cells within a given volume; the idea was to soften the site’s intense light and heat.

The Queen Alia International Airport stands as a masterpiece of modern airport design — blending regional identity with sustainable innovation.
This architectural marvel embodies a vision for an environmentally sensitive and regionally inspired terminal, securing Amman’s position as the main Levant aviation hub. 🛫🇯🇴

Built entirely from reinforced concrete, the structure takes advantage of the material’s thermal mass, adapting perfectly to Amman’s dramatic day–night temperature shifts. The tessellated roof canopy — a poetic array of shallow domes — shades the façades and channels daylight through elegant split beams. ☀️🏗️

Inspired by traditional Islamic geometry, the soffits reveal intricate leaf-like patterns branching gracefully from the supporting columns — a symbol of harmony between culture, nature, and engineering. 🌿🔷

Two parallel departure piers flank a central core of retail, lounges, and processing areas, while open-air courtyards invite natural light and fresh air, enhancing both sustainability and the passenger experience. 🌳✨

The expanded forecourt, transformed into a landscaped plaza, celebrates local traditions — a welcoming space where families gather to greet or bid farewell to loved ones. 💫

📍 Location: Zizya, Amman, Jordan 🇯🇴
📐 Built-up Area: 116,000 m²

“Zaha Hadid — When Architecture Becomes a Fluid Sculpture.”

🏢 The Absolute Towers: A Rhythm of Nature
The Absolute Towers—affectionately nicknamed the “Marilyn Monroe Towers”—represent a bold departure from conventional high-rise design. Rather than emphasizing rigid vertical lines, the towers feature smooth, continuous balconies that spiral around the façade, creating a captivating sense of motion and fluidity. Each floor rotates slightly in response to the surrounding views, offering residents unique, panoramic perspectives of the sky, city, and landscape. 🌆✨
This organic form reflects a deep inquiry into how architecture can reconnect people with nature in dense urban environments. Instead of conforming to modernism’s machine-like logic, the design embraces complexity, emotion, and environmental awareness. The towers aim to redefine the skyline not through height alone, but through softness, rhythm, and presence. 🌿
The result is a landmark that transforms a suburban intersection into a vibrant new urban center—an iconic statement of identity for Mississauga, and an architectural experience that engages both body and spirit.

When it opens in the heart of Los Angeles, at the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will be the world’s premier movie museum.

Situated on the famed “Miracle Mile,” the museum will preserve and breathe new life into the former 1939 May Company department store, now re-named the Saban Building. Celebrating its history and imagining new possibilities, the additions to the building that date from 1946 have been removed and replaced with a spherical building that features the 1,000-seat David Geffen Theater and the Dolby Family Terrace with views towards Hollywood. The revitalized campus will feature more than 50,000 square feet of gallery space, two theaters, cutting-edge project spaces, an outdoor piazza, the rooftop terrace, an active education studio, a restaurant, and store.

“The Academy Museum gives us the opportunity to honor the past while creating a building for the future—in fact, for the possibility of many futures. The historic Saban Building is a wonderful example of Streamline Moderne style, which preserves the way people envisioned the future in 1939. The new structure, the Sphere Building, is a form that seems to lift off the ground into the perpetual, imaginary voyage through space and time that is moviegoing. By connecting these two experiences we create something that is itself like a movie. You go from sequence to sequence, from the exhibition galleries to the film theater and the terrace, with everything blending into one experience.”

The project brief stipulated two 25-storey towers that create an outstanding landmark which provides a contemporary design, using state of the art technology combined with consideration of the region’s architectural heritage reflecting the status of the clients’ organisation.

The design is based on the concept of adaptive flowers and the "mashrabiya" - a wooden lattice shading screen, which are traditionally used to achieve privacy whilst reducing glare and solar gain. Aedas fused the principles of bio-inspiration, regional architecture, and performance oriented technology with an underlying performance criteria, grid-guide, and geometric composition. Traditionally, circles and orbits are used to reflect the concept of unification and unity evident in nature. The plan of the towers is based on six tangential arcs, taken from three intersecting circles – a pattern which forms the basis of nearly all geometric configurations known to the region. These configurations have been applied as part of the innovative mashrabiya-like façade creating an appealing and practical design. The façades of the towers comprise of mechanised structures which adapt to the movement of sun providing protection from direct solar rays whilst optimising admission of natural diffused light. Each sun shading device is driven by a linear actuator to dramatically protect the building from excessive exposure to solar rays. This system was developed through the emerging science of bio-inspiration, in which natural forms are studied and emulated to produce new forms intimately inspired by nature. The 2,098 dynamic units avoid the need for heavily treated glass, thereby reducing the need for significant artificial lighting and mechanical air conditioning. Therefore, the dynamic façade improves visibility and user comfort while decreasing energy usage and plant size thus providing an efficient system that lends itself to a more sustainable solution.
