🚒 *Fire Pump Room*
A fire pump room houses the pumps that boost water pressure for sprinkler and hydrant systems when municipal supply isn't enough.
- *Main equipment*:
- Fire pump: Diesel or electric, supplies required flow/pressure
- Jockey pump: Maintains system pressure, handles small leaks
- Controllers: Auto-start panels for each pump
- Valves: Suction, discharge, test, relief, bypass
- Flow meter: For weekly pump tests
- *Key requirements*:
- 2-hour fire-rated walls/ceiling or separate building
- Drainage for water discharge during testing
- Ventilation: For diesel exhaust and cooling
- Heating: Keep room >4°C so pipes don’t freeze
- Clear access: Min 1m around equipment, marked exits
- Protected power: Separate supply for electric pumps
- *Safety rules*:
- No storage: Not a storeroom for other materials
- Authorized entry only, keep locked
- Weekly pump run test + annual flow test
- Keep diesel tank filled, batteries charged
