AuCom was established in 1978 to design and manufacture a top end range of stereo amplifiers. We pride ourselves on our attention to detail.

The name AuCom originates from the combination 'Au' for audio, and 'Com' for communication. The two founders were brought together by their mutual interest in amateur radio and appreciation of music. Mark Empson was the electronics design expert and Ray Archer the business partner with entrepreneurial skills. As well as amplifiers, AuCom was also involved in the design of power supplies for radio broadcast systems, taxi alarms and energy saving devices for single phase and three phase ac induction motors. These energy saving devices were manufactured under a license agreement with the American space agency, NASA. From here the electronic soft starter technology was born and this became the main focus of the company who produced the world’s first range of commercially viable soft starters. Throughout our history, we have always been dedicated to innovation and research. A mix of agility and hard work keeps AuCom at the forefront of industrial electronic technology. We are known for our flexibility and engineering skill, and are recognised as the world's leading specialist in soft starters. It's the final day of IMARC 2026 in Sydney.

All week at Stand D30 we've been talking with people from across the mining industry. Most conversations came back to the same point: critical equipment has to keep running.

Two 40-foot high-cube containers are standing in Sendenhorst right now. Inside are six medium-voltage drives for a customer's oil pump station in Abu Dhabi.

The project was short on time and space, so instead of a new building, the cabinets went into containers. Engineered and fitted out here, then delivered as finished units.

Each container is insulated and has two large air conditioning units on redundant switching (if one fails, the other keeps running) plus a fully automatic fire suppression system.

Three drives per container, each with its own infeed panel, and each drive runs one pump.

Zwei 40-Fuß-High-Cube-Container stehen gerade in Sendenhorst. Darin sitzen sechs Mittelspannungs-Frequenzumrichter für die Ölpumpstation eines Kunden in Abu Dhabi.

Im Projekt waren Zeit und Platz knapp, deshalb kamen die Schaltschränke statt in ein neues Gebäude in Container. Hier entwickelt und ausgestattet, dann als fertige Einheiten ausgeliefert.

Jeder Container ist gedämmt und hat zwei große Klimaanlagen mit Redundantschaltung (fällt eine aus, läuft die andere weiter) sowie ein vollautomatisches Feuerlöschsystem.

Pro Container drei Umrichter mit je einem eigenen Einspeisefeld, und jeder Umrichter betreibt eine Pumpe.

His favourite bedtime story is a YouTube documentary about physics or ancient history. Works better than any sleeping pill, he says.

He's been part of AuCom's Application Team in South Korea for about a year now. The problem-solving is nice, but what he actually enjoys is passing that knowledge on to the next person who needs it.

Ask him to sum himself up and you get two words: diligent and sincere.

Coffee in hand, night owl by nature. The upside of staying up late, he says, is more overlap with colleagues on the other side of the world.

Seine liebste Gutenachtgeschichte ist eine YouTube-Doku über Physik oder Geschichte. Wirkt laut ihm besser als jede Schlaftablette.

Seit rund einem Jahr ist er bei AuCom, im Application Team in Südkorea. Das Lösen von Problemen ist schön, aber am meisten freut ihn, wenn er sein Wissen an die nächste Person weitergeben kann, die es braucht.

Auf die Frage nach einer Selbstbeschreibung fallen ihm zwei Worte ein: fleißig und aufrichtig.

Kaffee in der Hand, Nachteule von Natur aus. Der Vorteil des späten Aufbleibens, sagt er, ist mehr Zeit mit Kolleginnen und Kollegen auf der anderen Seite der Welt.

Standard drives push 30-50% harmonic distortion back into the grid. Ours push less than 5%.

That's what an active front end does: rectifier and inverter, working as one modular system, instead of a standard diode bridge. No oversized cables or transformers to compensate. No nuisance trips from voltage dips.

And if the application involves braking - test benches, winders, ski lifts, centrifuges, cranes - the same technology sends that energy back to the grid instead of burning it through resistors.

One drive family solves both problems. Low harmonic or regenerative, up to 2000 kW.

Herkömmliche Antriebe drücken 30-50 % Oberschwingungen ins Netz. Unsere weniger als 5 %.

Five AuCom MVH2.0 medium voltage drives, 4.16 kV each, keeping one pump station in Saudi Arabia running non-stop.

Ahmed Abdelaleem, field service engineer on our LV & MV drives team, helped commission them – sized for a high-demand pump station serving a major entertainment development in Riyadh, built for seamless water management and real energy savings.

This is what "service matters" actually looks like: precision engineering holding up under real heavy-duty demand, on-site, one commissioning at a time.

That's the job, wherever it takes him.

Fünf AuCom MVH2.0 Mittelspannungsumrichter, je 4,16 kV, halten eine Pumpstation in Saudi-Arabien im Dauerbetrieb.

Ahmed Abdelaleem, Field Service Engineer im LV- & MV-Drives-Team, hat sie in Betrieb genommen – ausgelegt für eine Pumpstation mit hohem Durchsatz, die ein großes Entertainment-Projekt in Riad versorgt, für zuverlässiges Wassermanagement und echte Energieeinsparung.

We promised a second video. Here it is.

Nine months of building, and then it was time. In September, we opened our new Customer Experience Center in Sendenhorst. "It makes us very proud," says Thomas Zirk-Gunnemann.

Christoph Vogel, CEO of the Amconex Group, puts it into context: "This is a clear commitment to growing our business and creating additional value in the future."

Christian von Toll from Weidmüller joined us as keynote speaker. "Our core vision is to keep automating and digitalizing," he says. Thank you for a partnership we've been building on for years.

Then the summer festival took over the site. Colleagues, families, friends, right where the work happens.

Wir haben ein zweites Video angekündigt. Hier ist es.

Nach neun Monaten Bauzeit war es so weit: Im September haben wir unser neues Customer Experience Center in Sendenhorst eröffnet. „Das macht uns sehr stolz“, sagt Thomas Zirk-Gunnemann.

Christoph Vogel, CEO der Amconex Group, ordnet den Schritt ein: „Das ist ein klares Bekenntnis dazu, unser Geschäft weiter auszubauen und in Zukunft zusätzlichen Mehrwert zu schaffen.“

Christian von Toll von Weidmüller war als Keynote-Speaker dabei. „Unsere Kernvision ist, weiter zu automatisieren und zu digitalisieren“, sagt er. Danke für eine Partnerschaft, auf die wir seit Jahren bauen.

Danach übernahm das Sommerfest das Gelände. Kollegen, Familien, Freunde, direkt dort, wo gearbeitet wird.
