Girls’ Day bei ITK. 40 Mädchen. 4 Standorte. Viele neugierige Fragen. 👧

Letzte Woche haben wir am Girls’ Day teilgenommen. In Holzkirchen, Frankfurt, Berlin und Rülzheim haben wir 40 Mädchen gezeigt, wie vielfältig Technik und Engineering sein können.

Die Teilnehmerinnen haben verschiedene Demos ausprobiert, erste Programmiererfahrungen gesammelt und einen Blick in unsere Werkstätten und Labore geworfen. 💻

Besonders schön war zu sehen, wie viel Interesse, Neugier und Begeisterung die Mädchen mitgebracht haben. Genau solche Momente zeigen, wie wichtig es ist, jungen Menschen früh einen Zugang zu Technik zu geben.

CRA responsibilities start much earlier than many realize.

While compliance with CRA regulations isn’t required until the end of 2027, reporting obligations for incidents begin much sooner.

From September 2026, manufacturers must notify the CSIRT, ENISA, and affected users of serious incidents and actively exploited vulnerabilities, even for older products.

What are the reporting deadlines? ⏰
24 hours: Early warning notifications
72 hours: Incident notification with additional information

Key aspects you need to prepare now:
▶ Clear communication channels: Set up and publish an incident contact point (e.g., via website/security.txt)
▶ Proactive planning: Develop detailed playbooks and assign clear responsibilities before incidents occur to handle situations calmly and efficiently
▶ Integrated processes: Closely align incident management with vulnerability management to ensure a seamless solution
▶ Fast mitigation strategies: Prepare predefined mitigation measures for critical systems to reduce damage until permanent fixes are developed

Product security does not end at release. A product that is secure today may be vulnerable tomorrow.

Under the CRA, manufacturers are required to manage vulnerabilities throughout the entire product's support period. Depending on end-user expectations, this can be quite long.

Key activities:
▶ SBOM management & vulnerability intake: A complete SBOM facilitates automated vulnerability scanning. An external contact point is crucial for prompt reporting.
▶ Vulnerability triage: Developers with in-depth system knowledge must assess incoming findings, prioritizing critical ones while disregarding negligible ones.
▶ Timely patching: Critical vulnerabilities must be fixed quickly considering software development and QA processes, while carefully managing competing priorities.

Our key learnings
▶ Responsibility does not end at SOP: System engineers must stay engaged beyond start-of-production and remain vigilant throughout the support phase.
▶ Structure enables scalability: Clear ownership, defined processes, and suitable tooling are essential for long-term efficiency and success.

Cities in Germany, big and small, can now easily apply AI forecasting to predict a wide variety of real time traffic forecasting metrics, like traffic density or parking occupancy. Together with ITK Engineering, AI forecasting experts, we are launching a new way to enable capabilities similar to a Digital Twin but based on Graph Neural Networks, using existing data and infrastructure to reduce implementation complexity.

Commercial suppliers and open-source components are typically an integral part of modern products. Thus, the ability to meet the CRA obligations does not only depend on your own efforts, but also on the suppliers that you choose.

Cyber security aspects of supplier management under CRA:
🔍 Due diligence: Avoid blind faith. Actively assess whether your suppliers are capable of ensuring the security of their supplied components both for commercial and open-source components.
🔍 Clear cyber security interface: Establish agreements that outline how cyber security tasks are split between you and the supplier. Communicate obligations upfront.
🔍 Continuous involvement plan: Ensure suppliers remain engaged throughout the product's support period especially for vulnerability and incident management.
