Cataracts? What are they? 👁

Cataracts can develop as a result of radiation exposure, among other causes, and therefore represent a known risk that should be specifically avoided. For individuals exposed to radiation in the workplace, there are legal requirements for monitoring the dose to the lens of the eye, which may vary by country; for this reason, we do not wish to make a general statement on this matter here. However, regular monitoring of this dose is generally recommended – for example, using a dosimeter.

Next week, the 107th German Radiology Congress kicks off in Leipzig.
This year’s theme is “Radiology Without Borders,” and the event aims to highlight new approaches, openness, and diversity in radiology.

How patients themselves can contribute to their radiation protection:

According to the German Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS - Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz), every resident in Germany undergoes an average of 1.6 X-rays per year (statistical average). Radiation protection products (see our portfolio for patient protection) can, depending on the focus of the diagnostic examination, lead to a reduction in radiation exposure.

In this post, you will find possible measures patients can take to actively contribute to their own radiation protection.
