We draw from 50 years of international experience in landscape architecture, urban planning and environmental management - with a regional focus on in Riyadh, KSA. r, and has built a legacy of high-quality projects in landscape architecture and environmental design over the last 60 years. Bödeker has extensive experience in desert landscaping in the Middle East, working without interruption in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since 1973 and since 1977 with the same client, the Arriyadh Development Authority / Royal Commission for Riyadh City. Bödeker is the culmination of various partnerships and iterations since its inception – having traded under the names BBW+P, BW+P, BW+P Abroad, Bödeker Partners, and BPLA. Our projects have won international awards, including the Aga Khan Award for both the landscape of the Diplomatic Quarter and the Quasr al Hokm / Grand Mosque Area in Riyadh, and the Liveable Communities Award 2007, for the King Abdulaziz Historical Centre in Riyadh. The company structure encompasses bödeker Landscape Architecture; bödeker Systems; and bödeker Environment, each offering directed research, experience and focus to different aspects of the built environment. We work regularly with other architectural, urban planning and engineering offices and professionals on a broad range of projects. [Summit Review] 🌿

We're proud to have been part of the 8th Future Landscape & Playspaces Summit KSA this October in Riyadh - as both sponsor and speaker.

Building Connections: Our booth became a lively meeting point; a space to connect, exchange ideas, and introduce Bödeker to a diverse community of professionals across the industry.

Gaining Knowledge: We had the pleasure of attending insightful talks and panel discussions that offered valuable perspectives on the evolving landscape design scene in the region.

Plant Manual – 2nd edition in Progress

Commissioned by Green Riyadh and the RCRC, the 2nd Edition of the Plant Manual is now nearing completion, and we are happy to share that this important resource is about to be finalised.

An official release date has not yet been announced. However, the manual will be published and made publicly available by Green Riyadh, along with a dedicated digital application. We recommend following Green Riyadh’s official channels for the release, and of course, we will share the publication ourselves as soon as it becomes available.

While the first edition already laid a strong foundation, this new edition represents a significant leap forward. We are in the final stages of completion, and although the release date is not yet set, we are excited about the progress we have made.

This new edition builds on more than a decade of hands-on experience and expands our plant database from 363 to 610 species. It also introduces 153 experimental plants for long-term testing and offers practical guidance tailored to Riyadh’s unique climate.

Thank you once again. Because of your commitment and expertise, we are about to hold the 2nd Edition of the Manual of Riyadh Plants in our hands – a shared achievement we are proud of.

Compiled by Alexandra von Bieler (Partner at bödeker) and Pinter-Burus, the manual is a living resource, shaped by real-world use and continuous feedback. Yvonne Rychlak supported with scientific review and content, while our on-ground team, du Plooy and Abdullah Al Ghanem, helped with plant verification on-site. Without the design team, the Manual could not have come alive – Abigail Sendall, Philippe Maurel, and Abulkhair Hejazy were essential to its visual development.

This work was made possible through the close collaboration with Green Riyadh and the High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh (RCRC) – with the bödeker team at the heart of the process.

We look forward to the day this resource will be made available to the public, enriching our shared journey towards a greener future for Riyadh.
