Surface treatment for machined parts：
Drawing says Ra 0.8 — so why is it still leaking?
The culprit is often Rz — the same Ra 0.8 can carry an Rz of 4.0. Ra averages out the peaks and valleys, but surface peaks and valleys, along with machining texture, can cause seal wear or create leak paths.
For high-sealing applications, spec both Ra and Rz. Note that N-grade corresponds only to Ra (N6 ≈ Ra 0.8, N7 ≈ Ra 1.6), so it cannot replace specifying Ra and Rz together. At JLCCNC, we measure both — not just the average.

Can electricity be used to machine metal? ⚡ That's the principle behind Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM).
Consider a deep, narrow cavity. A rotating milling cutter may not be able to reach the required depth without tool deflection or clearance issues. Sinker EDM uses a shaped electrode to erode the conductive workpiece, making this type of geometry more practical to machine.

“Do you offer masking before anodizing?”
Yes, but only for threaded holes under M5.
JLCCNC uses rubber plugs to protect these holes from exposure to the anodizing electrolyte. For external surfaces, such as grounding pads or precision faces, pre-anodizing masking is not available.
Instead, the entire part is anodized first, and the coating is selectively removed afterward:
✅ Secondary CNC Machining: The selected surface is re-machined to remove the anodized layer. This also removes a small amount of base aluminum, which needs to be considered when specifying critical dimensions.
✅ Laser Coating Removal: The oxide layer is removed from small, specified areas where localized coating removal is needed.
📌 Clearly mark the areas that need to remain bare and specify the required dimensions on your 2D drawing.

📏 Meeting dimensional tolerances doesn't always mean a part will rotate true.
For shafts and other rotating components, GD&T runout helps control how much a surface varies as the part rotates around a datum axis. 🔄
🔧 Circular runout: checks variation at individual cross-sections.
🎯 Total runout: controls variation across the entire specified surface.
The right tolerance callout can make inspection requirements clearer and help prevent unwanted surprises during assembly.

A hole might look perfectly placed in CAD, but will it still line up after bending? That’s where clear dimensions and tolerances matter.
Define critical hole positions, bend-related dimensions, and datum references in your engineering drawing.
