Solo under gennaker on Lake Como, one gust too greedy, and over the bow it goes. The K3X comes back up with the righting line, you climb on, sheet in, keep sailing.

Apparent wind: the moment catamaran sailing clicks.

The wind you feel on board is the sum of the true wind and the headwind from your own speed. The faster you sail, the further forward it moves.

The practical consequence: as you accelerate, sheet in and trim to the wind you feel, not to the windsock on shore.

Fast catamarans are sailed by the telltales and the apparent wind.

The Worlds are back, September 6 to 9 in Cesenatico. 🇮🇹

This is what the last TOPCAT Worlds looked like: north wind on Lake Garda in 2024. In three weeks the fleet lines up again, this time right off the beach of Cesenatico.

Eine Woche Griechenland, ein Weltmeister als Trainer. 🌊

Vom 2. bis 9. Oktober steigt das TOPCAT Catamaran Event im ROBINSON Kyllini Beach, und Wolfgang Klampfer übernimmt das Coaching. Wolfgang ist K1-Weltmeister von 2024 und einer, der Einsteiger und Regattasegler in derselben Woche schneller macht.

So läuft die Woche:
→ Täglich zwei Trainingseinheiten, an Land und auf dem Wasser
→ Neue K1 und K2X Katamarane
→ Maximal 10 Teilnehmer, ab 16 Jahren
→ Vom Einstieg bis zum Gennakersegeln, mehr als der Katamaran-Grundkurs ist nicht nötig

Delivery day on Île de Ré. 🇫🇷

One brand-new K1 for the Club Nautique des Portes en Ré, at the northern tip of Île de Ré. The club has been teaching sailing here since 1966, and it runs a TOPCAT fleet of 18 catamarans, from 15 to 18 feet.

Walk down to the beach at Gros Jonc and you see what that looks like: a full line of striped sails, ready for the next class.
