In field joint preparation on 3LPE / 3LPP pipelines, one challenge keeps coming back. How do you remove PP or PE pipeline coating without damaging the FBE primer?
This is exactly where the MONTI Vinyl Zapper stands out. It’s not just a removal tool. It’s a controlled coating preparation solution.
• Perfect for feathering edges
It naturally creates a smooth transition zone, which is critical for proper tape or shrink sleeve adhesion and long-term sealing performance.
• Consistent and repeatable
Operator-independent results reduce variability on site.
• Preserves corrosion protection integrity
By maintaining the FBE layer, you avoid exposing bare steel unnecessarily, reducing the risk of corrosion initiation during application.
The result?
✔ Cleaner surface prep
✔ Better adhesion of field joint coating systems
✔ Lower failure risk over time
You’re not just removing coating. You’re protecting the system beneath it.

Together with Jean-Claude Buyssens (MontiPower Benelux), Marc Degroux, and Herman de Vries, we’re demonstrating how to achieve blasting quality with powertools comparable to ISO Sa 2 ½.
A lot of attention at the show is going to our latest development: the new blasting discs. These are used as a pre-blasting step before applying the bristle blasting belt on the same machine — enabling results up to Sa 3.
We’ve had many great conversations around robotics and drone applications — exciting innovations that are rapidly expanding the possibilities of bristle blasting.
Thank you to everyone who visited us. We truly appreciate your time and interest!

The world’s best coatings deserve the best surface preparation.
Coating performance does not start with the coating itself, it starts with the surface underneath.
Surface cleanliness. Surface profile (Peak density) and Surface and Coating Application Result Testing
When it comes to liquid curing coatings, the number of peaks and their distribution truly matter for long-term performance.

There is an old saying: “The proof of the pudding is in the eating.” In corrosion protection, the proof is seen years later, when coatings either perform… or fail. And that outcome is determined long before the coating is applied — during surface preparation and verification.
That is why professionals count on Monti Test Company (M-TESTCO). With locations in Houston, Prairieville, Odessa and Corpus Christi, the MTestCo team equips inspectors, supervisors and contractors with the right tools to measure, verify and document surface preparation and coating quality. Their portfolio includes trusted brands such as: DeFelsko – Extech – Dakota Ultrasonics – Coatmaster – Tinker & Rasor – Western Instruments – Bristle Blaster® – MBX® – Aeroblaster - Prepper

Beyond supplying inspection equipment, M-TestCo keeps tools working through calibration services, repair, spare parts and equipment tracking software.
And there is more. M-TestCo now also operates a dedicated Repair & Care Center for MontiPower tools in North America. This highly valued new service supports contractors and distributors with spare parts availability, maintenance and refitting, service for pneumatic, cordless and electric Bristle Blaster® and MBX® tools

Ensuring that surface preparation equipment keeps running when productivity matters most.
Because when profiling peaks count for coating performance — count on M-TestCo!

SHOWING beats telling. Every time.
Last week our Brasilian office had the opportunity to run a hands-on workshop at a gas company serving Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo.
They did not know Monti tools yet. Together with two of their major subcontractors, we performed practical tests removing pipeline coatings such as FBE, PE, PP and liquid curing systems from difficult to prepare objects like a fl**ge, valve, and other fittings. And this is where the difference becomes visible.
Removing PE or PP is not the same as removing FBE. And removing a coating is not the same as preparing a surface.
What applicators and contractors often experience in the field:
• Slow removal
• Smearing of thermoplastics
• Inconsistent surface profile
• Poor adhesion performance afterward
When we demonstrated the Monti single and double machine, the results were impressive:
✔ Fast and controlled removal
✔ No smearing or burnishing
✔ Clean, metallic surface
✔ Outstanding, consistent surface profile for anchoring
Why does this matter? Because long-term adhesion is everything.
Chemical curing paints, adhesives, and composite repair systems depend on:
• Proper cleanliness
• Correct surface profiles
• Uniform anchor patterns
Without the right surface profile, long-term performance is compromised, no matter how good the coating or adhesive system is.
The workshop reinforced that you cannot explain surface preparation with slides. You have to show it. and you to let contractors see and feel the difference.
When they see faster removal and measure the correct profile afterwards, the conversation changes completely.
Thank you to the team and their subcontractors for the openness and technical exchange.
Surface preparation is not a step in the process.
It is the foundation of long-term asset protection.
