Our Australian Glasflügel friend (and
Mosquito owner), Rhiaan Bennett started a new event last year called RooGlide for 20-35 year olds! As she aged out of being a Junior, she felt the need to keep the connections going that JoeyGlide had created.

Narromine in NSW was the location for the first event and it was a huge success! Rhiaan (with the support of her pilot parents, Kylie and Neil, plus partner Nathan) put a lot of work in before and during… everyone received welcome packs with the very popular RooGlide bracelets.

Glasflugel was very well represented with 2 Libelles, 1 Mosquito, 1 Hornet and a Salto (yes, it's part of our family). We made sure they all have one of our stubbie holders (Australian beer holder… see the photo).

It was a non competitive event designed for people to achieve their own goals in a supportive environment and coaching was also offered. The evening games and morning talks were also a hit.

Gliding isn't just about flying, but about friendships and we love that the younger pilots have more reasons to get together.

We are excited to share 2 new products with you!

We now have a kit available for a strobe light on the fin on a Standard or Open Libelle! Being on the fin makes it visible from many angles.

And we are in the final stages of certification for the first certified Kestrel winglets. Christian performed the test flight last week and found the improvements the same as the other winglets. The minimum speed is slower, directional stability is better, stall behaviour in straight flight and circling more gentle, the aileron reaction is also improved during takeoff and landing plus improved aerodynamics.

All that plus the visual impact!

Our Glasflügel friends, Rhiaan and Neil Bennet are a daughter/father duo from Australia who flew 300 kms on the weekend in their Mosquiotos! They flew from Narromine in Australia and were supported, as always, by their super crew Kylie.

Today, 100 years ago, Eugen Hänle was born and it is a time for us to reflect and appreciate what he has achieved, and how he influenced the building and manufacturing of gliders even to the present day.

The company was founded in 1962 in Schlattstall near Kirchheim unter Teck (with his wife, Ursula) and in the early 1970s, Eugen Hänle decided to have a second plant for assembly and delivery of the aircraft at Bad Saulgau.

What many do not know: Eugen Hänle was also a pioneer in wind power. He invented the construction method for rotor blades made of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFK), also known as fiberglass. Eugen Hänle, being very inventive, had already created an experimental model whose rotors were 17 meters long and generated 100 kilowatt hours of electricity.

With this novel process, he was later also one of the first manufacturers worldwide to use it in the construction of gliders. Hence, the company name Glasflügel.

On the 21st In September 1975, Eugen Hänle died tragically in a plane crash near Hoßkirch. With the death of the owner, the company history and existence of Glasflügel also changed completely. The company initially continued to exist under another name, but then finally went bankrupt in 1982.

We are forever grateful to Eugen and Ursula for creating the Glasflügel family we are all part of today.
