A staircase designed to be experienced.
Staircases are rarely considered places to stay. This project changes that completely.
In Hirzel, Switzerland, a unique residential concept transforms the staircase into an architectural centerpiece: instead of surrounding an empty space, the stairs wrap around a softly illuminated cube made from MEVACO perforated metal. The result is a striking interplay of light, structure, and modern elegance.
Inspired by traditional Swiss farmhouses, architects Rolf Gmür and Eugen Antón designed ten contemporary apartment buildings that combine clean architectural lines with high-quality materials. At the heart of the concept is the glowing perforated metal cube — turning the staircase into an immersive spatial experience.
Project highlights:
🔹 LR5x20 Z9x24 perforated aluminum
🔹 2.00 mm material thickness
🔹 Powder-coated finished afterwards
🔹 Exceptionally smooth surface
🔹 Custom design possibilities with various perforation patterns and free contours
The interaction of light and perforated structure creates a soft, almost floating effect — functional, modern, and emotional at the same time.
A strong example of how MEVACO perforated metal does more than complement architecture — it actively shapes spaces.
