🇪🇺 Europe wants its own chips. That means building fabs that reach first wafer out on time and ramp without surprises. It’s what’s on the table when the semiconductor industry meets in Munich at SEMICON Europa. Less dependence, more speed, and supply chains that hold up even when the rest of the world doesn’t.

Over 40 years and more than 3,700 completed projects in high-tech and life science have taught us that a project’s success is largely shaped long before construction starts. The planning stage is where it’s decided when a fab goes into production, whether the budget holds, and how efficiently it will run for decades to come.

Meet our management team Timo Porta, Hermann Spinner, Markus Scheibenzuber and Benjamin Steimle as well as our CRC experts Alexander Handler, Stefan Peukert, Jakobus von Geymüller, Manfred Moll, Dr. Claudia Faiß, Sven Thiem, Dr. Ralph Bolanz, Holger Kretzschmar and Katja Lange to talk about the challenges you’re facing today and where your fab is headed next.
Book a meeting in advance or simply stop by our booth.

🇪🇺 Europa will eigene Chips.

Power, water, permits, skilled labour and sustainability are the issues shaping fab construction in Europe right now. Alexander Handler and Dr. Claudia Faiß attended the 4th Constructing Semiconductor FAB Summit Europe in Munich, where all of them were on the agenda.

Tobias Gotthardt, State Secretary at the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, opened the event by underlining how important the semiconductor industry is, not least for Bavaria’s own growth. The sessions that followed looked at how to bring together the complex requirements for utilities, regulation, sustainability and staffing when designing and building a fab.

With more than 40 years of fab engineering experience, we know how important it is to work closely with the client from the very beginning. Starting from a deep understanding of their process requirements, we develop the cleanroom concept and, building on that, the entire fab layout. The result is a facility that is ready for future technologies and growing capacity.

Thanks to Axel Fischer (X-FAB) for moderating and to Innovatrix for putting together such a well-organised event.

🇨🇭 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝘁𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵
That was the question that closed yesterday’s “20 Years of Swissphotonics” anniversary event at EPFL’s Rolex Learning Center in Lausanne. Tobias Saum and Rolf Gaspert were there for CRC.
The technical program focused mainly on photonic intelligence and integrated photonics, while quantum technologies, advanced sensing and AI-enabled optical systems were also explored in real depth.

Switzerland isn’t short on innovation. The real question is where it gets scaled. Moving from the lab to volume manufacturing takes cleanrooms, utilities and buildings designed around those specific processes. That high-tech infrastructure has to grow too, or the technology will grow somewhere else.

It’s a challenge we know well. Whether for photonics, semiconductors or life sciences, we design manufacturing environments from the process and the tools outward, bringing technology from development into production.

Thank you Swissphotonics for a great day, and congratulations on 20 years!

Designing tomorrow’s semiconductor facilities takes technical expertise, collaboration, and diverse perspectives.
Last week, Dana Nikolaj and Dr. Claudia Faiß participated in the “Women’s Lunch – Connect and Learn” as part of the Women in Tech program at SEMICON West. It was a great opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss how to bring more women into engineering and technology.

At CRC, women make up more than 36% of our team, contributing to the expertise behind our cleanroom and high-tech facility projects.
Our work connects architecture, cleanroom design, building systems, and ultra-pure media engineering. Bringing different perspectives into these disciplines helps us challenge assumptions and develop better solutions for complex production environments.

The conversations at SEMICON West made us think about how much visibility, mentorship, and real opportunities shape the next generation of engineers.

Thank you for a great lunch, and a big thank you to everyone who shared their stories.

Isabell Engel joined the EnviroFALK Pharma Water Summit. As design engineers and experts for ultrapure water systems in the semiconductor and pharmaceutical industries, we closely follow the evolution of pharmaceutical water systems.

The focus was on the opportunities and limitations of cold WFI generation, particularly regarding microbial control, lifecycle, and cold storage and distribution. Other topics included regulatory developments, online monitoring and IO-Link.
The discussion connected directly with the ISPE event “The Future of Pharmaceutical Water – Next-Gen Purity Inspired by Semiconductor Solutions” in Dresden in November 2025, which asked an important question: What can pharma learn from the semiconductor industry? For example, in polishing, process control and water reclaim.

This is where CRC brings both worlds together. For more than 40 years, we’ve been designing ultrapure water systems for semiconductor, pharma and biotech facilities, transferring proven technologies and engineering approaches from semiconductor manufacturing into GMP-compliant pharmaceutical water systems.

Thanks to the EnviroFALK team for hosting and for the valuable technical exchange!

SEMICON West 2026 shows where U.S. semiconductor manufacturing is heading. Expanding production capacity is one part of it. The other is building the infrastructure, capabilities and operational know-how to actually run these fabs.

Several topics on this year’s agenda reflect the challenges ahead and stand out for us:
🔹 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 & 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲
Getting manufacturing environments ready for more demanding technologies and higher energy requirements.
🔹 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀
A large investment doesn’t automatically turn into stable production. Between groundbreaking and ramp-up there are a lot of decisions that are much cheaper to get right early than to fix later.

Both are challenges we deal with every day at CRC. Our background in complex high-tech engineering and cleanroom environments gives us a solid foundation to support semiconductor manufacturers as their requirements change.

For us, the U.S. market offers real opportunities to collaborate internationally, share knowledge and bring proven engineering expertise into new projects. At SEMICON West, we’re expanding our presence in the U.S. semiconductor ecosystem, meeting industry partners and exploring where European engineering experience can add value to upcoming manufacturing projects.

📍Jakobus von Geymüller, Dr. Claudia Faiß and Dana Nikolaj are on site at the German Pavilion, South Hall, booth 1444-03.
