A vertical turning centre changes the perspective on heavy work.
The part becomes the centre of a machine concept built around stability, accessibility and controlled material removal.

That is the idea behind the SLV 8500BM. The BM configuration extends the vertical turning platform with milling capability, making it suited to applications where turning and additional machining features need to work together in one production environment.

The foundation follows the same uncompromising logic: a one-piece Meehanite cast-iron bed, box way construction, an anti-heat displacement spindle and headstock design, high-precision spindle bearings and pre-tensioned ball screws.

The SLV 8500BM will be part of our lineup at AMB 2026.

The next part is already waiting.
While one workpiece is being machined, the next step in production is already approaching. That is where an efficient machine concept can make a real difference - not through isolated features, but through the way the complete workflow comes together.

The MCV4500D combines a dual-pallet configuration with automatic tool changing and a dynamic vertical machining platform. This helps create a smoother transition between machining, part handling and the next operation.

Its rigid Meehanite cast-iron bed, cross roller guideways and high-precision ball screws provide the stable foundation needed to turn fast movements into reliable machining results.

It begins with every setup, alignment and repositioning decision made along the way. ⚙️

➡️ BEFORE:
The workpiece is clamped, aligned and machined then clamped, aligned and repositioned again for the next operation.
For complex components, these repeated steps can become a significant part of the workflow.

➡️ AFTER:
More operations are completed while the workpiece remains securely clamped.
The result can be a more continuous process with fewer interruptions, fewer realignment steps and less handling between operations. 💡

“Box ways are outdated. Linear guides are modern.” 💭

We hear that a lot when shops compare machines, and we get why it sounds convincing. But in practice it’s a shortcut that can lead to the wrong buying decision. From our perspective, guideway types aren’t “generations”. They’re engineering choices:

🔹Box ways tend to win when rigidity and vibration damping matter most, especially in heavier cuts.

🔹Linear guides tend to win when fast positioning, high acceleration, and dynamic toolpaths are the priority.

So instead of asking “Which one is newer?”, we should be asking: what do our parts, materials and strategies demand: speed, or stability?
If we start from real applications instead of judging a guideway by how current it sounds, the right configuration becomes much easier to justify. 💡

A big spindle doesn’t automatically mean a big process.⚙️

The real question is: can you keep heavy turning predictable – shift after shift – while still leaving room for milling features, tool load, and the occasional “this part changed again”?

In high mix, real world machining, the HSS twist drill is not basic. It is strategic.

HSS is the workhorse substrate. It is cost effective, versatile and often more forgiving than carbide in everyday shop conditions. That’s why it remains a staple for general-purpose drilling in mild steels.

And yes, we are a machine tool builder, so why talk about tools at all❓

Because every CNC machine is only as productive as the interface between machine, tool, material, and setup. If we want better parts and better spindle time, we have to talk about what actually touches the metal. 🪛
