Canadian photographer Steve Biro went out hoping to photograph a bald eagle.
He came home with a photograph that would be seen around the world. 🦅
In 2019, Biro visited the Canadian Raptor Conservancy in Ontario, where he positioned himself low beside a pond to photograph a bald eagle named Bruce.
He wanted to capture the eagle together with its reflection in the water.
Then Bruce flew directly toward him.
Biro stayed low and kept shooting. The eagle passed so close that he later recalled feeling the breeze from its powerful wings.
And for a fraction of a second, everything lined up.
Bruce’s wings stretched almost perfectly across the frame while their reflection completed the shape below, creating what looks like a nearly perfect circle around the eagle.
No AI. No Photoshop trick. No photomontage.
Just an eagle, still water, careful positioning—and extraordinary timing.
Biro didn’t fully appreciate what he had captured until he went through the hundreds of photographs afterward.
When he shared the image online, it exploded across social media and was eventually seen around the world.
Thousands of photographs can be taken in a day.
Sometimes one fraction of a second is the one people remember. 🦅📸
