Costa Rica is located in Central America, and it has 51 100 km2 with a population of around 5 million people. We are a coffee producing country and we depend mostly on that. We have eight different coffee producing regions that are totally identified. They are divided into lowlands below 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) of altitude, where coffee is lighter; and highlands over 1,200 meters (3,937 feet) wi

th a volcanic origin; which produce coffee with higher acidity and stronger aroma. Over 80% of our quality coffee continues to be grown in the highlands, between 1,000 and 1,700 meters (3,280 to 5,577 feet) above sea level, under temperatures that fluctuate between 17 and 23ºC (62 to 73ºF)

La Bandera is located in the region known as Tarrazú. This region cultivates Arabica coffee, mostly of the Caturra variety, a small and bluish cherry of good appearance. The lands produce approximately 700,000 quintals in around 22,000 hectares (54,363 acres), composed of small farms that average a size of 2,5 hectares (4.95 acres). The coffee produced here is 95% Strictly Hard Bean (SHB). Santa María de Dota, which is the town where we are exactly located, has an area of 400.22 km2 and a population of about 7000 people. It also has mountains, rich in soils, mostly of sedimentary origin that are ideal for growing coffee because of their acid components. Los Santos is characterized by a seven-month rainy season (May to November) and a dry season (December to April) that are well-defined, favoring coffee collection and flowering over a period of five months, from November to March. The harvest coincides with the dry season, resulting in a uniform ripening and high quality fruit. These conditions also contribute to a better drying of the fruit under the sun. Our microclimate allows us to produce one of the finest coffees in the world. Our Mill is located right next to El Cerro de la Muerte, which is 60 miles away from one of the highest mountains in Costa Rica. This whole area is a tropical cloud forest that provides the right microclimate to produce coffee with high quality potential. Our farms help protect the wild life. All the lots are on a very pronounced slope, so it is planted on small terraces that help the transportation of the coffee. We also have a lot of avocado trees that work as “umbrellas” on the rainy season avoiding erosion of the soil and give shadow on the dry season. We will continue working very hard with dedication, commitment and a lot of love in all our lots, to be able to offer a cup of coffee of high quality to our buyers around the world.
