Why can two injection molds that look very similar have a price difference of thousands of dollars?

One of the key reasons is mold steel selection.

For standard applications and moderate production volumes, P20 may be sufficient.

For more demanding projects, steels such as 718, NAK80, S136, or H13 may be considered depending on surface finish, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and operating temperature.

Before selecting a steel grade, we typically consider:

· Resin type
· Expected tool life
· Surface finish requirements
· Transparency requirements
· Glass fiber or corrosive additives

The goal is to specify the right steel for the application.

Thermal imaging can capture temperature patterns right after molding, helping reveal early signs of uneven cooling, shrinkage, and warpage.

From inspection to prediction.

It does not replace conventional inspection. It adds earlier visibility into the molding process.
