Weld Not Smooth Enough? How Our Wheel's Infeed Works
Ran a grinding wheel down a weld seam, stepped back, and the ripples were still catching the light? Chances are it isn't the disc. It's the infeed.
A metal grinding wheel removes material through high-speed rotation, with surface speed typically landing between 30 and 80 m/s. But the number that decides whether a seam ends up flat or chewed up is depth-of-cut infeed β how much material you feed the wheel into per pass. That working range sits at 0.005 to 0.05 mm. Push harder and you're not removing metal faster, you're heating it, loading the disc and burning through wheels. Go too light and the wheel glazes and rubs instead of cutting.
Combine the right infeed with the 15Β°β30Β° angle a portable angle grinder is designed for, and the wheel starts working the way it should. It self-sharpens: grains dull, grinding resistance climbs, and the resinoid bond fractures just enough to shed the worn grain and expose a fresh edge. That's what keeps a wheel cutting steadily instead of going slick halfway down a seam.
Our grinding wheel is built for exactly this. Aluminium oxide grain in A24Q4 BF and A30Q4 BF, resinoid bond, two to three layers of fiberglass mesh for burst resistance, in T27 and T42 depressed center profiles. Sizes cover 100 mm, 115 mm (4.5 inch), 125 mm, 180 mm and 230 mm, across model codes like A0200001, A0200016 and A0200034. Compliance covers EN12413 and ISO9001.
Now the part most buyers get to eventually. On structural steel and building construction work, the figure that matters is cost per kilo of metal removed, not sticker price. SALI grinding wheels come in around 65%β70% lower cost per kg removed than BOSCH EXPERT, with a 40%β60% lower wholesale unit price. The honest trade-off: a stable grinding ratio of 1:20 against BOSCH EXPERT's 1:28, meaning roughly 30% more wheel consumed for the same metal removed. For a yard burning through discs by the box, that still lands well ahead on total consumable spend. And if a quality issue does show up, claims get resolved within 24 hours on photo or video proof, rather than a 15β30 day evaluation cycle.
So β do you take lighter passes and let the wheel do the work, or lean on it and chase speed? Genuinely curious how your crew runs a weld seam.
