China's equipment renewals to boost new demand for higher-end steel products
BEIJING -- The country's action plan to promote large-scale equipment renewals is estimated to generate about 8 million tonnes in new market demand for medium and high-end steel products by the manufacturing industry, according to an industrial association.

The China Iron and Steel Association said that the action plan to boost equipment renewals and trade-ins of consumer goods, which was unveiled in March by the State Council, the cabinet, will lead to new demand for steel products by particularly the manufacturing and energy industries.

China's industrial firms see smaller gains in profits in Q1
Profits at China's industrial firms posted smaller gains for the first quarter compared with the first two months of the year, official data showed on Saturday.

Data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed that industrial enterprises with annual revenue of at least 20 million yuan ($2.8 million) saw their total profits increase 4.3 percent year-on-year in the first quarter after a 10.2 percent rise in the first two months. Profits fell 3.5 percent year-on-year in March.

TAIYUAN -- China's major coal-producing region of Shanxi has stepped up renewable energy growth over the last year amid efforts to seek low-carbon and greener development.

Its installed renewable energy capacity reached 53.09 GW at the end of 2023, up 22.6 percent year-on-year, according to the Shanxi provincial statistics bureau.

BEIJING - China's natural gas consumption registered a steady increase in 2023 amid the country's efforts to promote green development, official data showed.

Last year, apparent consumption of natural gas stood at 394.53 billion cubic meters, up 7.6 percent year-on-year, according to the National Development and Reform Commission.

In December 2023, apparent consumption of natural gas rose 9.5 percent compared with the same period of 2022, reaching 37.65 billion cubic meters.
