This is an embossed rainbow hologram! As you change your viewing angle, the colors shift across the image.

Invented by Stephen Benton, this type of hologram helped bring holography from the lab into commercial applications, including the famous National Geographic cover hologram.

What if packaging could create striking optical effects through light rather than traditional printing inks?

At the 10th ADA Cup Label Awards, IMAGE TECH received Gold in the Chemical Industry category for its NIP micro-nano optical label applied to a Mobil lubricant drum lid.

By combining PET film with tinplate, the design uses micro-nano structures to create distinctive colors and dynamic visual effects.

We're continuing to explore how optical technology can support more distinctive packaging and enhanced brand protection.

How do you choose the right size for a hologram lamination pouch?
It’s not simply about choosing a pouch that “fits.”

For most ID cards, the pouch should be slightly larger than the inner core, with about 5–10 mm of margin on each side.

This helps provide:
✅ Full coverage
✅ Clean sealing
✅ Better edge finishing
Need punching or die-cutting? You may need additional margin.

But there’s one important exception — Teslin cards.
For Teslin, the pouch can be the same size as the core because the pouch bonds directly during lamination.

📌 Most ID credentials → Leave extra margin
📌 Teslin ID cards → Same-size pouch

Choosing the right size from the start can make the lamination process much smoother.

Patch overlay or cold laminate overlay — can you tell the difference? 👀

At first glance, two ID cards can look almost identical after the overlay is applied.

But underneath the surface, they’re quite different.

🔹 Patch Overlay
• Requires a laminating machine
• Better scratch resistance
• Stronger bonding
• Suitable for high-security IDs

🔹 Cold Laminate Overlay
• Can be applied manually
• No laminating machine required
• Flexible for temporary or decentralized card issuance

For remote areas where electricity or equipment may be limited, cold laminate can offer a practical solution for card issuance.
