Pump head is not simply the vertical distance a pump lifts liquid.
A reliable selection starts with Total Dynamic Head (TDH): static lift, pressure and velocity differences, plus losses through pipes, elbows, valves and process equipment.
Next, place the required flow and TDH on the pump curve. The duty point should be checked for efficiency, absorbed power, operating range and NPSH margin. For slurry service, also account for viscosity, solids concentration, particle characteristics and wear.
Remember: head and pressure are related but different. At the same head, a denser slurry produces a higher pressure difference and generally requires more shaft power.
