🚀 Can a better GPS antenna really make a difference?

During the development of our Nomad Terminal, we tested different GPS antenna designs and found a significant improvement:
📍 Passive ceramic antenna: 8.2s TTFF / ~15 satellites
📍 Small active ceramic antenna: 5.8s / ~27 satellites
📍 Large active ceramic antenna: 5.2s / ~32 satellites

By changing the antenna from passive to active and optimizing its position and orientation, we significantly improved GPS signal reception and Time to First Fix (TTFF).

🔍 From 5-Digit Recognition to Water Meter Reading!

In our previous project, we built a 5-digit AI recognition system on the ESP32-S3. This time, we took it a step further with an ESP32-P4 + autofocus camera.

We collected real water meter images, trained a new model focusing on the pointer and digit-reading area, and deployed it on the ESP32-P4.

The result? 💧 The system can correctly recognize the reading from a real water meter image!

A small experiment, but another step toward practical Edge AI vision applications.

🚶From Qianling Mountain to Huangguoshu Waterfall and Tianhe Lake, we stepped away from our desks, enjoyed nature, and spent quality time together with our colleagues and families.
