Busway or cable for high-density data centers?
There is no single answer.
The right power distribution approach depends on how the data center is expected to operate in the future.
A fixed-layout facility and a rapidly expanding data hall may have completely different requirements.
Busway can be attractive where flexibility and future changes are important.
Cable distribution can remain the right choice where power routes and loads are clearly defined.
The key questions are not only about today’s load.
They are about:
✔ Future expansion
✔ Rack changes
✔ Maintenance access
✔ Available routing space
✔ Power monitoring requirements
One thing is worth clarifying:
Cable tray supports cables. It is not itself a power distribution system.
Good electrical design starts by understanding the complete power path — from the source to the final rack load.
