Hi everyone,

Today we’re putting a 24 Volt 40 Ampere Hour lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) battery to the test using the CDM Battery Tester. Our goal? To find out its actual remaining capacity.

Here’s how we set it up:

First, configured the charging current and charge cut-off voltage

Then, set the discharge current and discharge cut-off voltage

After that, simply started the test

Because this battery pack has a relatively large capacity, the test took several hours to complete. Once finished, the results were clear:
The measured capacity came in at around 26 Ampere Hour to 27 Ampere Hour – roughly 70% of its original rating.

But that’s not all. After completing the test, the CDM tester automatically fully charged and balanced the battery pack. You can see from the final readings that all individual cells are now well balanced, with consistent voltages across the pack.

When servicing hybrid batteries on Toyota or Lexus vehicles, there’s one thing you should never ignore: the voltage sense harness and main bus bars.

After about five years, the original NiMH cells often start to leak electrolyte. This causes oxidation on the bus bars and connector terminals. Even if you install a new hybrid cells, those corroded components can trigger BMS communication errors later on-leading to unnecessary customer comebacks.

Our recommendation:
Whenever you replace the battery cells, replace the bus bars and harness at the same time. It’s a small cost but prevents big headaches down the road.

Hi, I’m Danny. In my last video, I connected 8 replaced Toyota hybrid cells to the CDM Battery Tester to run a full capacity test. Now the test is complete, and it’s time to see the results.

Here’s how we measured capacity:

1，Charged each cell at 2 ampere to 8.4 volt

2， Keep them rest briefly

3，Discharged at 2 ampere down to 5.4 volt
4，Charged again to 8.4 volt to see how much energy they could actually hold

That final charge capacity is the true usable capacity.

So, what did we find? Most of these cells measured between 2 Ampere Hour and 3 Ampere Hour – only about half of their original capacity. In other words, they’re no longer fit for service.
